Overview Under the supervision of and in conjunction with the Program Manager, oversees the Animal Care Kennel and Live Release staff to ensure SOP, City Ordinances, State Laws and City Policies are followed and enforced/adhered to accordingly; develop materials and conduct training for Animal Care Shelter and Live Release staff. The ACS Supervisor will perform performance reviews 6 months probationary period for new employees and recommendations. In partnership with the staff veterinarian, the ACS Supervisor also ensures all protocols and shelter standards are followed and maintained for the health and well-being of the shelter animals as well as oversee the daily physical operations of the shelter and grounds, including staff and visitor safety, cleanliness, code compliance, and minor/major repairs. The ACS Supervisor monitors and maintains shelter records of animal population, live release records and euthanasia of animals and ensures live release and promotion of animals is being conducted, assist in the promotion and advocate for the live release placement of animals housed at ACS. Th ACS Supervisor also prepares employee work schedules, monitor equipment inventory (shelter supplies), conduct disciplinary investigations; additional duties as necessary. Responsibilities Supervise Kennel Technicians and Live Release coordinators and contributes to the coaching, performance evaluations and development of assigned staff. Assists with managing the daily functions of Shelter, and Live Release operations by ensuring that each division has needs met through leadership and example. Responsible for working together with the Program Manager and HR representative concerning disciplinary investigations. Responsible for signing and submitting payroll documentation and approving staff leave requests. Knowledge of State and Local laws related to animal care. Effectively communicates with internal and external customers regarding state and local laws and our department policies and procedures. Ensure that staff and department are following state laws/protocols regarding shelter sanitation standards. Ensure that the shelter is in accordance with state laws concerning euthanasia. The ACS Shelter Supervisor position is also responsible for maintaining accurate records intakes and outcomes as well as equipment inventory for other items used and assigned. Responsible for handling citizen complaints and working on resolutions. Respond to citizens regarding animal related, department concerns, live release questions and educating on City Ordinance and Department policies. Liaison with vendors to order equipment, uniforms, cleaning products, and other supplies as needed. Develop all training classes and material; prepare educational booklets for each employee individualized for Field and Shelter operations. Conduct a training academy for all newly hired employees; conduct ongoing training for ACS staff throughout the year. Make training recommendations to the Program Manager. Maintain certifications/licenses for skills required such as Euthanasia, Animal Control Officer Basic, Cruelty Investigation. Ensure that all Kennel Techs are shelter Fear Free certified. Ensure all ACS staff are trained on behavioral evaluations and how to document them in computer system. Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree (AA / AS) or 2-year technical certificate Three (3) years of experience in the Animal Welfare career field Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Licenses and Certifications Required A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire Required at Time of Hire FEMA 700 & 800 certifications Basic Animal Control certification LRCA Certification NACI Level 1 and 3 certifications NACA ACO 1 and ACO 2Required within 18 Month of Hire NACI Level 2 certification Employment Testing Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below: Criminal Background Check: Yes Motor Vehicle Record Check: Yes Drug Screening: Yes Physical Exam: Yes Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications.
