Citizenship/Clearance requirement: Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance and pass a background check and drug screening. SciTech Services, Inc. (SciTech) is seeking an Animal Husbandry Technician I to provide support in the welfare and well-being of various research animals. The Animal Husbandry Technician I will maintain the health and condition of research animals by performing daily animal health checks and husbandry duties.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for feeding and watering animals according to project SOP's and schedules established by management.
- Monitor animal health by observing for signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behavior and report concerns to veterinarians or supervisors.
- Maintain accurate daily records, animal census sheets, room equipment and other forms according to SOP's.
- Assist with safe handling of animals, considering factors such as species-specific behaviors, temperament, and size. May assist in the restraint of animals for procedures.
- Restrain, handle, and manipulate various animal species.
- Prepare appropriate receiving data/documentation for incoming animal shipments.
- Clean and sanitize animal enclosures, cages, and living areas according to SOP's and schedules.
- Process caging and equipment through cage wash machinery and generate cage set ups.
- Provide prescribed treatments on weekends and as needed during the week, assist Veterinary Technicians as needed.
- Understand and follow appropriate safety procedures and quality assurance guidelines.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., pull, push, and handle cages, racks, large pieces of equipment, feed, bedding, and other materials in the research facility.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- Eligible for ALAT within 6 months of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, with a positive attitude.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift, pull, and push equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Work is performed in an area that is noisy and has relatively high ambient temperature (greater than 77°F).
