About Lost Our Home Pet Rescue: Lost Our Home Pet Rescue is the only non-profit, no-kill pet rescue based in Tempe, AZ. whose mission is to save pets abandoned, or at risk of homelessness, due to a life crisis. Many of our programs are linked to the human-animal bond and extend beyond pets to include pet parents. Services include (1) 90-day temporary care program, (2) a pet food bank (3) rescue of abandoned pets, (4) pet intake for adoption from pet parents in crisis (5) partnerships with domestic violence shelters. Located in Tempe, Arizona, our beautiful shelter houses 80 pets (approximately 40 dogs and 40 cats). Our pets are well cared for in a home-like environment. You must love animals to work here! Overview: Under direction of the Pet Welfare Manager, Animal Care Technicians (ACT) provide daily care and well-being to the animals at Lost Our Home Pet Rescue, ensuring the environment is clean and welcoming for the animals. The ACT position requires attention to detail, good decision-making, the ability to work independently and have good communication skills with volunteers, the public and our employees. ACTs are the foundation of our rescue and are responsible for the feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and basic care of shelter dogs and cats. We rely on their observation and documentation skills to ensure critical information is transmitted to medical, behavior, adoption, foster and temporary care teams as animals move though the various shelter departments and processes. ACT Responsibilities include: Follow all written shelter procedures and protocols. Clean and disinfect kennels, suites, cages, equipment, runs and other areas of the facility. Check and maintain supply levels. Exercise dogs and provide out-of-kennel potty breaks for dogs. Ability to handle all cats and dogs of varying breeds, temperaments, and behavior. Monitor and report any signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to supervisor/manager. Provide food, water and proper care for all shelter animals based on feeding guidelines and by adhering to schedules and protocols. Provide behavioral enrichment to pets to support their well-being in the shelter. Open/unlock facility at start of day and/or close/lock facility at end of day; and Assist medical department in pulling animals for surgery and/or releasing animals from surgery back to their neighborhoods, kennels, and/or crates. Requirements & Skills 6 months experience either working/volunteering for a shelter/rescue or caring for dogs and cats in a professional environment (boarding, vet office, groomer, etc.) is required. Ability to walk, stand, crouch, bend, lift, carry, push, and pull heavy items. Ability to handle all cats and dogs regardless of their breed, temperament, or behavior. Must be reliable and adhere to work schedule. Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time. Strong team player with good communication skills and ability to work with a diverse team. Excellent time management. Ability to adapt to change and accept new duties within a fast-growing organization; and Ability to work with diverse individuals within the organization and broader community. Physical Effort: Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs. Handle and guide/walk dogs weighing up to 100 lbs. Walking and/or standing for long periods. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to communicate with animals, the public, volunteers, and employees. Frequently work in a bent position. Use strength or agility in capturing and restraining stronger, more active animals. Working Conditions: Both indoor and outdoor work is required. Will be exposed to disinfectant solutions and subject to bites and scratches while handling animals of questionable temperament. Exposure to bites, scratches and animal waste.
