Overview:
This role operates under the guidance of management to support animal care operations while adhering to relevant regulations and policies. Responsibilities may include rotation across various animal and support areas. The position requires collaboration within a team, contributing to a positive work environment, and assisting in the training of colleagues.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure proper care and enrichment for routine and specialized animal colonies.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of facilities and equipment, including cage preparation and sanitization.
- Handle animals, conduct observations, and report any abnormal findings, ensuring adherence to veterinary instructions and monitoring room conditions.
- Operate and maintain facility equipment such as cage washers and environmental monitoring tools.
- Engage in specialized tasks as directed by senior technicians or management.
- Document task completion accurately and timely, contributing to quality reviews.
- Assist in training team members on operational procedures.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies and methodologies for program improvement.
- Collaborate effectively within a team, demonstrating strong communication and accountability.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 years of experience in an animal research or veterinary setting; an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in animal science is preferred.
- AALAS certification is highly desirable.
- No known allergies to animals.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
- Physical capability for tasks including lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, reaching, and prolonged standing.
