**Job Description**
The Animal Care Technician is responsible for the daily care of Boston College's laboratory animals including but not limited to: mice, rats, frogs, & zebra fish. The incumbent will:
+ Clean, feed, and water animals as assigned.
+ Observe animals for abnormalities and sickness.
+ Observe and report deviations in the environment which could affect animal health or researchprojects i.e. (temperature or humidity).
+ Cage wash duties such as dumping, washing and sterilizing cages.
+ Accurate record keeping of all animal and facility related documentation.
+ Comply with federal, state, local and institutional regulations concerning laboratory animals.
Hiring Range: $19.45/hr to $24.31/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.
**Requirements**
This position requires that the incumbent be able to lift up to 50lbs and push up to 300lbs. In addition, the incumbent may be required to work weekends and holidays.
+ High School Diploma
+ 1 to 3 years experience in the care of laboratory animals.
+ Understanding of animal health and husbandry, behavior, spread and control of disease, sanitation processes, and environmental changes affecting laboratory animals; common strains of rodents and their nomenclature.
+ Skill in making careful visual observations.
+ Skill in verbal and written communications.
+ Ability to follow verbal and written communications.
+ Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with research staff, animal care staff, veterinarian, and other employees of Boston College.
+ ALAT certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science is preferred.
