Job Description:
Under the direction of the Animal Care Supervisor, this position is responsible for all aspects of shelter cleaning, animal care, laundry, and dishes to ensure shelter animals are provided with the highest quality of care and enrichment during their shelter stay. This position will be cross-trained to provide care for both feline and canine animals. Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required with experience in animal welfare and shelter operations preferred. Must be skilled in animal handling and have general knowledge of a variety of animal species and their health, care, and behavior. The qualified candidate will be proficient in oral and written communication, computer usage and the use of basic computer programs, with a strong customer service background. Ability to multitask, prioritize, manage time efficiently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, stressful setting. Must possess a valid driver's license and complete required NIMS level training within the first six months of hire. Physical Demands Regularly required to maneuver on uneven terrain, climb, bend, move about on hands and knees, use hands, arms and fingers to reach, handle, seize, hold, grasp or turn objects. Strength and agility sufficient to lift and maneuver up to 50 1bs and up to 100 pounds with reasonable accommodations. Ability to handle and control animals of various species, size and temperament, including aggressive and dangerous animals. Extended periods of standing, walking and animal handling.Typical Working Conditions: Inside animal shelter environment and extended period of time outside. Exposure to outside conditions of extreme heat and cold and adverse weather. Exposure to animals of all types and temperaments, zoonotic diseases, potentially hazardous work areas, animal feces, dirty or unsanitary conditions and cleaning chemicals. Noise levels in the shelter vary but may be moderate to high at times.Drug testingBackground checkIn addition to the application, testing and/or examinations may be required for further consideration on this position.This position may be required to work holidays and one weekend day per week.IBEW Maintenance & Clerical Bargaining Unit Position.
