The City of Colonial Heights is seeking a compassionate, caring, and hardworking individual who is comfortable with animals to fill a part-time Animal Control Aide position. The individual will work 24-28 hours per week in a fast-paced environment and must be available to work a flexible schedule, to include a combination of mornings, afternoons, weekends and holidays.Animal Control Aide (Part-time): Performs tasks relating to the operation and maintenance of the Animal Shelter, including cleaning kennels/cages (remove bodily fluids and fecal matter), dishes and litter boxes; feeding and exercising the animals; cooperatively works with other staff and volunteers; assists in the intake of strays and owner-surrendered animals; and the rehabilitation and adoption of animals from the Shelter; provides customer service; and performs related work as required.Examples of Duties Cleans and disinfects animal kennels/cages, including removal of bodily fluids and fecal matter. Feeds, cleans, provides water and is responsible for the general care of animals in conjunction with the Code of Virginia. Ability to recognize illness and/or injury to impounded animals. Performs custodial duties to maintain the general cleanliness of the facility, to include sweeping and mopping floors, and cleaning restrooms. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and perform duties that require frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, and bending; must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (weight may vary on a day to day basis) and frequently lifts or carries objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Other duties as assigned.Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Requires general knowledge of the proper treatment and handling of animals. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes a combination of mornings, afternoons, weekends and holidays. Successfully complete a pre-employment medical physical and criminal background check.Physical Demands & Work Environment Requires physical condition that permits bending, carrying, walking, heavy lifting, and working in all weather conditions; and ability to read, write and maintain records. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lifts or carries objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
