Position PurposeUnder general direction, maintains effective animal control in the city and county.Essential Functions and Basic Duties
- Receives and responds to animal control complaints in a timely and courteous manner.
- Maintains professional appearance as an employee of the city.
- Checks descriptions of lost pets against each animal picked up to determine if the animal has been reported as lost.
- Responsible for euthanizing animals when necessary.
- Issues citations and notices as necessary.
- Responds independently to complaints to maximize staff availability.
- Shares in on-call rotation with other animal control officer.
- Treats each animal in a compassionate and humane manner.
- Transports cadavers for disposal as needed.
- Maintains vehicles in clean and good working order.
- Maintains transport cages and carriers in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Completes information cards accurately for surrendered or captured animals.
- Is courteous to and cooperates with BRAWA volunteers.
- Maintains good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QualificationsTraining and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an equivalent GED certificate.
Special Requirement(s):
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass euthanasia training and become certified.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
