Salary : $29,250.00 - $42,166.41 Annually Location : 140 County Landfill Road - Palatka, FL Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 24-028 Department: Planning & Development Opening Date: 05/07/2024 General Description This is a full-time or part-time, hourly position that reports to the Animal Control Supervisor. The position performs work caring for dogs, cats, and any other animals housed at the Animal Control Shelter. Essential Job Functions
Receives animals delivered by Animal Control Officers or members of the public. Hoses out and cleans kennel runs and drains with bleach and other solvents as needed. Scrubs kennel run walls, fencing, floors, as needed. Cleans cat cages, provides litter and food, and cleans underneath trays as needed. Cleans, sweeps, disinfects, and performs related cleaning duties as needed or instructed. Washes all related feeding bowls, crates, beds, and equipment. Washes blankets, sheets, and other items, as needed. Completes paperwork. Feeds animals. Performs deep cleaning to shelter, including removal of cob webs, and other debris. Cleans walkways when needed. Cleans the shelter and offices as instructed. Performs customer service for visitors dropping off or picking up animals. Ability to respond to unusual circumstances as it relates to shelter operations. May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies and/or other emergency duties. Works weekends and holidays as required. Minimum QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of animal care procedures. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of Animal Services. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent. One (1) year experience working and/or caring for animals. (A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.) Special RequirementsLICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. Ability to pass certified animal control officer school. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid). Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing. Driving. Ability to work under stress with time constraints. Ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time. Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds or over). Climbing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, jumping, running, reaching, pulling, and smelling. ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS Works inside in an office environment. Works outside in varying weather conditions with noise, dust, slippery and uneven surfaces, heights, and flea infested areas. Stressful situations. Note: Leave accruals may differ for bargaining unit employees. SICK LEAVE - All regular full-time employees will earn sick leave at a rate of 13 days per year.
