Zoo New York is nestled within historic Thompson Park in the enchanting Thousand Islands region of New York State. Our 25-acre zoological park is focused on native New York species (current & extirpated), domestic livestock and exotic ambassador animals and serves as clinical site for the State University of New York (SUNY) at Jefferson Community College's Zoo Technology Program (www.zookeeping.com).
Animal Curator
Position Overview: Are you passionate about wildlife and ready to lead a team of animal enthusiasts to new heights? We're on the lookout for a dynamic General Animal Curator to join our pack! As the General Animal Curator, you'll help lead the charge in animal care, habitat development, staff management, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and inspire the animal care team to provide top-notch care for our zoo family.
* Dive into the world of habitat development and create immersive experiences for our guests and animal residents alike.
* Champion compliance with AZA, USDA, and state and federal regulations.
* Collaborate with our Executive Director to chart the course for our zoo's future.
* Mentor and train the next generation of zookeepers through our partnership with SUNY Jefferson Community College.
* Cultivate partnerships with the local and scientific communities to advance our conservation efforts and educational programs.
Experience Required
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in biological life sciences or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in an accredited zoological institution. Proven leadership skills with a strong commitment to animal welfare and conservation. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
