The Office of Administrative Services Department is actively seeking a Animal Foster Coordinator.

This is paraprofessional work at a lead worker level in coordinating various activities relating to animal foster care programs and participating in the handling, and technical veterinary care of animals. Work requires knowledge of applicable laws, techniques, methods, and procedures governing animal care and control which involves the use of specialized skills, which are acquired through a combination of training and considerable on the job experience. Contacts require skills in understanding, influencing, and communicating with others in order to successfully interact with other employees and the public. Skills of persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others point of view are often required to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around. The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by procedures or precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The work involves differing situations requiring use of judgment in search for solutions or new applications within ones' known experiences. Work is performed in an office, kennel, and field environment where there are some risks and hazards due to the handling of animals, but the hazards are known, somewhat predictable and mostly controllable . Schedule will involve working flex hours, weekends, and evenings. The physical demands are moderate and consist of lifting animals and supplies weighing more than 50 pounds. Operates standard office equipment such as personal computer. Operates a motor vehicle. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied, and the worker is permitted some latitude to set own priority subject to supervisors approval.

Examples of Work

+ Manage setting appropriate expectations for f osters and ensuring they have the information and to ols they need to care for their foster pet.

+ Resolve complaints /concerns from fosters.

+ Create positions for. Train and oversee volunteers who assist with the manag ement of the foster program.

+ Develops databases and spreadsheets to track, monitor , and evaluate progress of programs.

+ Formulates and recommends policies and procedures for assigned programs.

+ Maintains up-to-date knowledge of foster program best practices and recommends programming changes to keep innovative programs moving forward.

+ Participates in the handling, care, grooming, and/or selection of animals to be offered for foster .

+ Responds to verbal and written inquiries regarding assigned programs.

+ Compiles data and prepares reports and/or oral presentations.

+ Establishes and maintains records, files, and reports.

+ Reports to work location during emergency circumstances such as actual and anticipated natural and man-made disasters.

+ Operates standard office equipment such as personal computers using word, spreadsheet, database, and other related software .

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

OPEN REQUIREMENTS:

+ Three (3) years of education and/or experience in customer service, program coordination, marketing, or administrative work with

+ At least one (1) year of technical animal care experience.

+ Experience as a veterinary technician - preferred.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

+ A valid driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.

+ Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain and maintain during employment in this class a City of Jacksonville Public Driver Certification.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

+ The probation period for this class is six (6) months.

+ This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment, random and other drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonville's Drug Free Workplace Policy (0401).

+ ACPS is part of the City of Jacksonville's emergency response operations. When pet friendly emergency shelters are open, all full-time employees are required to report and carry out duties as assigned for the duration of the emergency.

+ Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
