SUMMARY
Performs daily inventory audit of all animals. Supervises Kennel Attendants in care and feeding of animals/sanitation and maintenance of shelter facility. Mix food/liquid formulas/medications/food supplements according to instructions/prescriptions/knowledge of animal species. Examine and observe animals detecting signs of illness/disease/injury and select candidates for euthanasia/perform euthanasia on a daily basis.
Perform animal grooming duties such as: washing, brushing, clipping, trimming coats, cutting nails, cleaning ears and may include specialized procedures such as: branding/tattooing/hoof trimming. Treat animal illnesses or injuries including dressing or suturing wounds/applying splints/other protective devices following experience or instructions of veterinarians. Provides advice to citizens on ability to adopt individual pets and on recommended medical care of adopted pets. Respond to questions from citizens and provide information about animals such as: behavior, habitat, breeding habits, facility activities. Perform laboratory tests on blood/urine/feces such as urinalyses or blood counts assisting in diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems. Inoculate animals against various diseases such as rabies or distemper. Collect and record animal information such as weight, size, physical condition, treatments received, medications given, food intake. Contact veterinarians securing treatment to sick/injured animals and animals seized under cruelty prosecutions. Performs other duties as assigned. Skill in professional veterinary medical techniques and practices. Minimum Qualifications Education: High School diploma equivalent and none of relevant experience or 2 Year College Degree and 1 year(s) of relevant experience Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Ability to deal courteously and effectively with public/peers/subordinates. Ability to provide veterinary medical services to all sheltered animals. Ability to examine/diagnose/treat illness/injury and perform first aid/emergency care. Ability to prepare/maintain records and reports. ADA and Other Requirements. Positions in this class typically require grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
