Job Description:
Marshall Farms Group is looking for a reliable, effective leader to supervise our minipig barriers. We are looking for an individual that can carry out the day-to-day operations of animal care, while also empowering others on their team, building relationships, and being consistent and credible. This position is Mon-Fri with occasional weekends on an as needed or rotational basis. Pay grade is M2 with a range of $23.09 - $34.63/Hour Marshall Farms' Minipig Supervisor is directly responsible for all aspects of minipig care and production which includes supervision of thetechnicians who care for them. The Supervisor must be knowledgeable of the normal growth, care and expected health concerns related to Minipigs and report any concerns to production management and/or veterinary staff. This position also involves overseeing both production barriers and the sales holding barrier as well as supporting weekend schedules. Animals are Maintained in a Healthy, Safe Environment
  • Knows and maintains a proper level of hygiene and cleanliness within the animal enclosure's
  • Provides supplemental feedings and supportive care.
  • Identifies pigs that require special treatments. Trains and encourages staff to identify pigs that require treatment as well.
  • Applies and accurately records traits and other pertinent information onto pigs' records.
  • Cares for medicine and utensils including routine cleaning, sanitizing and storage.
  • Communicates any health related, or production concerns to one or all the following: Production management, or a member of the vet staff.
  • Moves animals and makes pen changes, ensuring proper handling.
  • Administration of medications/treatments, requiring knowledge of proper dilution and reconstitution.
  • Care for medicine and utensils including routine cleaning, sanitizing and storage.
  • Ear notching/tagging.
  • Ensures staff have the necessary supplies to complete their work effectively and efficiently.
  • Assists the veterinary and/or production staff with elective or non-elective surgical procedures as necessary.
Diagnostic & Laboratory
  • Conducts and/or oversees Health Surveillance and semi-annual FELASA testing for minipigs, ensuring that samples are properly collected and documented.
  • Assists in the performance of various technical tasks as needed, including ECGs, Eye exams, cardiac auscultation.

  • Provides supervision and direction to staff and coordinates workflow within the work unit, including distributing work, disseminating information, assigning staff to cover for absences, providing technical assistance, answering questions, and resolving problems. Ensures work is scheduled effectively; and checkpoints and controls are set for monitoring progress.
  • Manages employee performance by clearly defining job responsibilities and standards of performance, providing clear, thorough, timely feedback. Promptly addresses performance problems through corrective action. Elevates performance issues that cannot be resolved through coaching to the next level of management for possible disciplinary action. Evaluates and appraises employee's performance and follows-up with proper documentation.
  • Monitors subordinates' attendance. Reviews and approves Benefit Time requests. Authorizes all overtime. Verifies and approves payroll.
  • Investigates and addresses employee complaints and follows up with Manager and HR as required.
  • Assists in interviewing and hiring subordinate staff.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment and training needs identification including maintaining the training / skill matrix for assigned shift. Creates learning opportunities for all staff as part of their daily operations.
  • Fosters an environment where every employee feels they are a valued, appreciated, and important member of the Marshall Team.
  • Works efficiently: Identifies and implements improvements that result in increased productivity for self and team. Challenges the way things have always been done.
  • Safe Work Environment: Supports all company safety initiatives and assures compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA safety regulations. Resolves safety problems as required, investigates accidents, and resolves at root cause level, supports staff participation in and compliance with safety training and related safety requirements. Participates in safety inspections as required.
  • Complies with and assists in enforcing all site security requirements.

  • Ensures staff are assigned to the appropriate tasks; work is scheduled effectively; and checkpoints and controls are set for monitoring progress.
  • Ensures self and staff keep up to date on technical knowledge and developments that impact roles.
RequirementsEducation, Competency and Leadership Requirements Education/ Experience: High School Diploma or GED. A minimum of 2 years relevant experience required. Prior animal production or supervisory experience preferred. Competency Requirements: Individual maintains a mastery skill level in all areas/functions that relate to Animal Behavior and Production, including formulating policy, developing, and implementing new strategies and procedures. Individual will maintain thorough product knowledge and full understanding of Animal Production philosophy and procedures of the company. Individual is familiar with technical tasks and the organization and distribution of associated work activities. Individual is highly capable of motivating staff and deal effectively with performance issues. Individual will proficiently interact with cross-functional teams and possess good organizational skills and written and verbal communication skills.Individual keeps abreast with changes to the State & Local regulations as they relate to Animal Production.Leadership Requirements: Individual will be expected to envision potential, foster enthusiasm and commitment in colleagues in departmental performance and institutional goals. They will have the ability to lead challenging personnel, foster an environment that encourages thoughtful initiative, ownership, and responsibility for actions. Individual will contribute to a productive and professional environment by setting a positive example and demonstrating enthusiasm, diligence, and ethical behavior and by taking responsibility for ones' actions and challenging oneself to continually improve.Work Conditions & Special Requirements Work Conditions: Duties of this position are primarily performed Monday -Friday approximately 7:00AM to 3:30PM. Hours may periodically fluctuate including requirement of weekend work. Conditions are often hot and humid, with frequent animal contact. Work area has a high level of noise. Earplugs are required.Physical Requirement: Requires manual labor and working in an animal environment. Ability to stand and walk for 8 hours a day.
