Job Summary:The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) is seeking a qualified Compliance Specialist I (working title: Animal Records Specialist) to join our Colony Records Unit, a sub-unit of Compliance, Records, Safety & Training (CRST). The Animal Records Specialist assists in themaintenance of accurate and complete animal records to meet the clinical and research needs of the institution; reviews database entries to ensure completeness and accuracy of records; maintains proper flow of records and reports among the various units and divisions; and participates in the design of forms and systems to facilitate the usefulness of the electronic health records (EHR) program. The WNPRC EHR contains all demographic, clinical, surgical and research information pertaining to each nonhuman primate housed at the WNPRC and all experimental protocol information for each scientist performing research at the Center. Additionally, a majority of the clinical treatments and experimental procedures are coded utilizing a standard internal Systematized Nomenclature of Human & Veterinary Medicine (SNOMED) identification process. Accuracy and attention to detail is imperative in this position to maintain regulatory compliance, professional accreditation and grant funding.Responsibilities:20% Connects target populations with compliance resources to assist with interpreting laws, regulations, and best practices; and communicates with customers to provide information or answer questions65% Tracks and maintains records of compliance through various mediums5% Provides logistical office support to complete operational tasks10% Compiles specialized animal records reportsEducation:Required:H.S. DiplomaPreferred:Bachelor's Degree with a focus in animal, biological or health sciences.Qualifications:REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:* At least 4 years of full-time work experience without Bachelor's degree.* Demonstrated experience with database systems and web-based applications, including mining online databases for reports.* Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and Internet searches.* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to relate complex information in an understandable fashion to a diverse group of people with different levels of knowledge on the topic.* Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.* Strong teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work independently.* Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality.* Strong organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple tasks with numerous interruptions.* Meticulous attention to detail.* Demonstrated ability to succeed in a customer service position.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:* Knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.* Previous experience working with an electronic health records (EHR) system strongly preferred.* The WNPRC utilizes a standard internal Systematized Nomenclature of Human & Veterinary Medicine (SNOMED) identification process, therefore, previous experience working with SNOMED is highly desirable.* Previous experience working in an academic research environment, especially in a research center, highly desirable.Work Schedule:Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
