Animal Services Officers provide information and resources to help people and animals. Duties include protecting public health and safety by responding to and investigating animal related issues and enforcing local and state laws related to animals. Duties also include responding to complaints reported by the public; capturing stray or loose animals; removing dead animals; investigating biting incidents; issuing warnings and citations for animal control ordinance violations; caring for captured animals; cleaning animal shelter facilities and vehicles; euthanizing animals; testifying in court when required; answering and dispatching calls; and participating in a dispatch duty rotation. A high school diploma or equivalent required. No experience necessary but prior relevant experience and bilingual (English / Spanish) skills beneficial. Must have basic computer knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office products; and have, or be able to obtain within specified timeframe, a valid Class C Texas driver's license, and Animal Control Officer, euthanasia and bite stick certifications. Schedule will include some weekend and evening hours, including participation in the on-call rotation; must be available for callback in emergency situations and be able to adhere to a maximum one hour emergency response time. Individuals hired into this position will receive $2,666 after their first 30 days of employment provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
  • Employees that successfully complete their 6-month orientation period will receive an additional one-time payment of $2,667 provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
  • Employees that successfully complete one year of employment withoutdocumented attendance or disciplinary issues will receive an additional one-time payment of $2,667.
  • The maximum amount of hiring incentive that an individual employee may receive is $8,000.
