Are you passionate about animal welfare? Chatham County Animal Services is seeking a dedicated Animal Services Officer to enforce animal control laws, respond to emergencies, and provide compassionate care to animals in need.Under the supervision of the Animal Services Supervisor, you
* Enforce animal service laws and regulations and respond to citizen calls and complaints regarding animal service issues.
* Patrol an assigned area to capture and impound stray, nuisance, and dangerous animals.
* Respond to dispatched calls/emergencies and investigate complaints of stray, sick, injured, nuisance, or dangerous animals.
* Capture sick or injured animals whose owners are unknown and transport them to the veterinarian.
* Use your knowledge of investigative techniques and resources to recognize signs of disease, abuse, or extreme distress in animals and notice details relevant to establishing the facts of a case.
* Use chemicals and cleaning solutions for quarantine and sanitation practices.
* Prepare and maintain case reports on all animals, issue summonses to court on animal-related issues, and serve subpoenas for violations of Federal, State, and/or County animal control laws, codes, and ordinances.
* May testify and present evidence in court cases or hearings.
* Will be trained according to health department guidelines to humanely euthanize unwanted, sick, or badly injured animals and dispose of deceased animals.
* Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays because Animal Services is open seven (7) days per week. Daily hours may vary.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
* High School Diploma or GED, and
* At least two (2) years of experience working with animals in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic; or
* Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
* Must possess the National Animal Control Association certification or be able to obtain certification within two (2) years of employment.
* Must be able to become skilled in the procedure of administering intravenous, intra-peritoneal, and intra-cardiac injections when administering euthanasia drugs, along with the skill to reasonably estimate an animal's weight when administering the injections.
* Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
