Job Summary
Represents Animal Services and the City of Grapevine through phone calls, in person interactions, and electronic communication at the service desk; maintains records and files; accepts money for services rendered; supports supervisor, manager, and officers as required.
Essential Functions
1. Serves the needs of customers through phone calls and electronic communication and in person to represent Animal Services in a warm and welcoming manner.
2. Operates shelter database to collect, create, maintain, and update animal and person data correctly.
3. Completes paperwork and performs tasks to complete intake (surrenders, strays, etc.), outcome (adoption, redemption, etc.), lost and found reports, equipment rental and licensing.
4. Maintains records and files on animal bites, citizen complaints, adoptions and other paperwork as required.
5. Reconciles animal inventory and update information in shelter database to reflect changes.
6. Provides counseling for adoptions and owner retention of animals.
7. Receives money for fees, adoptions, donations, etc. and provides receipt.
8. Ensures workspace and customer areas remain clean and orderly.
9. Prepares daily deposit of money received.
10. Operates a motor vehicle in order to transport, load, and unload items including, but not limited to food, animals, animal items, cat litter, carriers, etc.
11. Maintains and cleans rooms in use for animal care and storage at the shelter.
12. Cleans animal cages and kennels as needed.
13. Provides necessary food, water, and shelter to impounded animals.
14. Monitors and reports signs of illness or injury in animals to supervisor.
15. Maintains inventory and stocks food, litter, bedding, cleaning supplies, etc. and reports to supervisor the weekly needs for ordering.
16. Provides administrative support to staff.
17. Types and produces correspondence and documents for various purposes, produces monthly reports, orders supplies, etc.
18. Works with, trains, and supervises volunteers.
19. Assists volunteer coordination and outreach efforts, as needed.
20. When assigned to Animal Care: photographs, vaccinates, microchips, weighs, and medicates animals.
21. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
22. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
23. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
* Must have knowledge of basic disease prevention and control.
* Ability to read, write, operate computer programs, and perform simple math.
* Must have the physical ability to perform job functions-exposure to loud noises, lifting or exert force on objects up to 50 lbs., restraining and handling animals of all temperaments, operating a variety of equipment, exposure to zoonotic diseases.
* Must have knowledge of basic animal behavior, animal care, animal diseases, and breeds.
* Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations, controlling emotions, and resolve issues quickly and efficiently, using sound judgement.
* Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Must be able to follow verbal and written directives.
* Must be able to communicate courteously and effectively with other people and maintain a pleasant and friendly demeanor at all times.
* Must be able to exercise good judgment and make competent decisions in all activities.
* Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
* Must have the ability to acquire knowledge of city animal codes and ordinances, and specific techniques.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of customer experience is required.
Six months experience working with domestic animals in a care capacity is required.
Position may be subject to work weekends and holidays.
Must pass a credit check and a Federal/National criminal background check. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level 1).
