  • REPORTS TO: Building Administrator, Director, and Assistant Director of Special Services JOB GOAL: To promote the achievement of students' educational goals and learning objectives by providing assistance to the classroom teacher. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists the classroom teacher and in the delivery of an effective instructional program.
  • Work with individualized students in small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills taught by the teacher.
  • Performs clerical duties related to classroom activities, such as the creation of bulletin boards, organization of materials and distribution of snacks, clean-up, and housekeeping.
  • Assist the teacher in implementing strategies for reinforcing learning based on an understanding of individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Guides students when engaged in independent activities.
  • Aids the teacher in the operation and care of equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Communicate any special needs of individual students to the teacher.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Helps students' master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
  • Provide escort assistance to children when necessary.
  • Assist in toilet training, self-help skills and the expansion of food repertoires.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during non-instructional times; i.e. drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
  • Participates in in-service training programs.
  • Follows through on classroom behavior plans and individual student behaviorplans.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about student as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  • Provide services that conform to district objectives, board policies, administrative directions, and state laws/regulations.
  • Helps students with behavioral challenges to successfully participate in the classroom, socially and with activities.
  • Performs all other tasks and assumes such other duties as designated by the Director of Special Services, Building Principal and Superintendent.
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year and hours based on Tier level and salary as per GFT Contract. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of non-certified staff. FLSA Status: Exempt
