JOB TITLE : Lead Nurse (RN) QUALIFICATIONS :
A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or a Diploma in Nursing. Experience in school nursing and/or pediatrics is preferred. Valid license from the Alabama Board of Nursing to practice as a registered nurse. Valid CPR Card and Instructor's Certification in CPR. Valid Alabama driver's license and the ability to have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements. Any other certificate required by state law. FLSA : Non-Exempt REPORTS TO : Principal/Student Service Coordinator TERMS FO EMPLOYMENT : Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system. REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Oversees the training and certification of nurses and school system health workers. Assists nurses, school administrators and school staff in developing school health programs. Plans and directs the activities of the registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and other school staff providing health services. Plans and coordinates the implementation of programs of primary prevention and control of communicable diseases, health education programs, wellness activities, and healthcare-related events or campaigns for the school system. Plans and supervises appropriate training programs for specific task that can be safely performed by school personnel. Represents the school system at conferences, meetings, community events, or other designated programs related to school-based health and wellness programs. Works with community agencies to provide improved health services. Plans and coordinates school and school system healthcare and wellness education programs; supervises healthcare curriculum implementation. Participates in and/or coordinates health programs and services for designated students. Manages health certifications and credentials records (e.g. CPR, AED, etc.) Serves as a liaison between the ALSDE and the school system regarding the health program, system reporting, and data collection. Recommends exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with applicable policies and guidelines on infections and contagious diseases/conditions. Provide effective in-service education on health-related topics for school system personnel. Coordinates and implements health screenings mandated by state law. (e.g. spinal screening, vision, hearing, etc.) Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Communicates in an effective, clear and timely manner. Collaborates using communication skills in a professional and sensitive manner. Perform any other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Knowledge of effective procedures and practices for vision, hearing and other appropriate health screening activities. Ability to provide effective staff development and in-service activities. Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practices. Knowledge of and ability to develop collaborative relationships with community and state healthcare services and agencies. Ability to organize, maintain and report data and information related to health services. Knowledge of school system functions, departments, personnel and schools necessary for the efficient and effective processing of communications, requesting of needed information and implementation of the school nursing programs. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast paced, highly intensive work environment. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information. Punctuality and regular attendance.
