Location: Alamogordo,NM, USA
Under general supervision, performs daily work assignments for the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) Division of the Alamogordo Police Department, in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority. Required:
* High school diploma or GED equivalent;
* Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPSW) or (CFPSW) in New Mexico or willing to be certified at the next testing opportunity;
* Valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain within 60 days, with a driving record acceptable to the City of Alamogordo; or
* Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Desired:
* Bachelor's degree.
* Lived experience of recovery from a mental health condition and/or a substance use disorder.
* Assist in performing a danger assessment, a crisis assessment, an environmental assessment, and a lethality assessment upon entry to the community situation;
* Assist in performing an on-scene assessment and treatment plan;
* Effectively perform crisis intervention, including de-escalation, crisis planning, and implementation;
* Design appropriate referral recommendations using available community resources and follow-up;
* Responsible for all incident documentation;
* Will be the on-site resource for any relevant clinical information and will be the liaison for collaboration with other involved parties, including families, friends, and other community providers (all under the clinical supervision of an independently licensed clinician);
* Provide case management duties to reduce future crisis response needs;
* Play an advocacy role;
* Promote self-care, illness self-management, and wellness and recovery;
* Address population of child, adolescent, adult, dual diagnosis, co-occurring and elderly;
* Work with families and involved persons to de-escalate the situation, make a crisis plan and enlist cooperation with recommended treatment;
* Document interactions;
* Must be able to work as a team with first responders and be aware of first responder culture;
* Become familiar with police codes and language;
* Participate in and complete all required training;
* Provide education in the community about the agency and all components of CRS when needed;
* Check work email at the beginning and end of each shift;
* Provide mentoring to interns and new staff;
* To work as a part of a mobile crisis team serving people in crisis in Otero County;
* Contributes to a high-quality work culture through participation in training and mentoring to develop skills, including safety-related training and skills;
* Interacts professionally and provides excellent customer service to all levels of City staff and citizens to ensure high operational and service standards; and
* Performs duties in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.
