POSITION SUMMARY: In a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment, contributes professional and clinical expertise to assigned patient populations to ensure the delivery of high quality care. Scope of practice will encompass: o Expert clinical practice o Expert guidance and coaching of patients and families and other healthcare providers o Research o Leadership (clinical, professional, and systems) DEPARTMENT: Endocrine Surgery o In collaboration with the supervising or collaborating physician, the APP will be expected to: o Conduct and assess history and physical examinations including new visit, follow up and urgent visits. o Assist in hospital rounds and patient discharges including a thorough medication reconciliation and follow-up plan. o Be proficient in performing Pre-Op and Post-Op visits o Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic imaging studies. o Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions o Prescribe medications and treatment plans o Counsel patients and families o Management of thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal disorders o Assist in the build of a highly regarded Thyroid Center o Participates in or leads quality assessment, performance improvement activities, and programmatic growth opportunities o Attend Tumor Board meetings regularly o First Assist in Operating Room on general surgery cases o Serve on call and/or weekend rotation as required EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program as determined by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or holds a current Registered Professional Nurse and Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program/Masters in Nursing.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical practice experience SPECIAL SKILLS: 1. Current Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or for Advanced Practice Nurses a current Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and Registered Nurse First Assist (RFNA)certification if assisting in the Operating Room. 2. Hold a valid, current New Jersey license. 3. Obtain a New Jersey CDS and federal DEA certificate upon employment if not already covered. 4. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving. 5. Participation in pertinent professional and/or specialty organizations preferred. 6. BCLS certification through the American Heart Association
