Job SynopsisThe Appalachia Build Job Site Coordinator works under the supervision of the Site Manager to coordinate and implement projects for Appalachia Build Volunteers. MCC Appalachia Build focuses on housing repair for low-income individuals and families who do not qualify for other low-cost housing programs. The program brings in volunteers especially in the Summer. Some of the goals in addition to home repairs include faith-sharing, communication and understanding between volunteers and local residents. This three-month assignment interacts with youth groups, youth sponsors, and clients as well as the rest of the team on location.Applicants processed on a rolling basis - open until March 24th OR when the team is full.QualificationsAll MCC workers are expected to exhibit a commitment to: a personal Christian faith and discipleship; active participation in a Christian church or Christian community; and nonviolent peacemaking.   • Starting knowledge of some construction tools and materials
  • Awareness of construction safety
  • Organizational skill to help with organizing tools and keeping material inventories
  • Capacity to lead and direct volunteers in completion of construction tasks
  • Willingness to learn basic home repairs and help unskilled volunteers learn
  • Understanding of poverty issues in Appalachia
  • Capacity to facilitate or assist with group learning sessions
  • Willingness to work with volunteers of all ages and backgrounds as well as other staff
  • Ability to facilitate the marketing of Appalachia Build promotional items
  • Patience and stamina
  • Valid U.S. driver's license with acceptable driving record and eligible to be an MCC authorized driver as defined by policy, insurance, and legal requirements.

Key ResponsibilitiesSpecific Tasks and Duties:
  • Oversee work projects with the volunteers.
  • Learn basic home repairs and teach unskilled volunteers.
  • Make sure all materials and tools are available daily on site as needed.
  • Request materials and tools so that they will be available on site when needed.
  • Maintain daily and open communication with the Site Manager, other job site coordinators, the volunteer adult group leader along with the homeowner to ensure smooth delivery of service to the job. Be conscientious and respectful in conduct and communication with all.
  • Organize, coordinate and maintain tools and materials used by Appalachia Build to ensure minimum of waste and tool loss/breakage.
  • Work with the volunteers to ensure a clean safe work site
  • Transport all items and materials to and from the job site, including building refuse, all as advised by the Site Manager.
  • Facilitate or assist with evening sessions and worship together with the Appalachia Build staff.
Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.Supervision: No direct supervisory responsibilities but helps oversee volunteers in the kitchen.Travel expectations: No travel required.Physical activity/demands:
  • Occasionallyascending or descending stairs/ladders or the like.
  • Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
  • Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another.
  • Constantly medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Constantly operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Constantly operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
Environment Conditions - exposed to occasionally low or high temperatures as well as outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Occasionally exposed to hazardous or noisy environments.
