Reports To: Cutting/Pre-Sew Area Manager

Direct Reports: Cutting Department Employees

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview: Responsible for the planning, coordination, efficiency, and quality of the cutting department. Must provide cut parts in a timely manner to the order prep area to ensure customer requirements are met. Cutting department encompasses tasks of spreading, cutting, material handling, cut support, additional work, recuts, and shade sorting.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Efficiency: Ensure support of the Companies Operational Goals , by meeting cutting deadlines to ensure that orders ship as directed by the management.
  • Safety: Responsible that your work areas are neat and orderly to promote a safe work environment. Your operators must follow ALL NSA Safety and Housekeeping Policies (including but not limited to: Safety glasses, music, food and drink, etc.). Responsible for your operators operating the equipment in a safe manner according to trained procedures. Responsible for reporting ANYTHING that appears unsafe in your opinion, and have the authority to shut down ANY task/operation that you feel may be unsafe.
  • Cutting Equipment: All Cutting equipment operation goal is to operate the cutter at appropriate feed rates for the respective material.
  • Spreading Operation: Lay the correct material to the specified length and number of layers. Provide the cutting machines with enough spread material to maximize cutting output time. Provide feedback to Pre-production and Purchasing on any material issues (cuttable width, quality)
  • Off Load/Cut Support Carts: Group cut parts according to product routing, check quality (i.e. material flaws, number of layers, accuracy), cut additional components required, and verify with the shop order and/or work instruction. Separate shades when required
  • Marker Organization: Verify the accuracy of the markers. Markers should contain the material information, number of layers to be spread, the item number (if more than one per job card), bar code, and any additional pertinent information. The markers should be segregated by required cut date, then a determination is to be made as to which cutter is the correct one for the fabric/number of layers (in consideration of manual vs. automated cutting, serrated knife, eyelet, holes, knit versus woven, etc.).
  • Inventory Awareness: Should be highly aware of current inventory levels and immediate requirements to ensure appropriate and adequate supplies for production and customer demand while mandating compliance with FIFO (first in first out).
  • Equipment Preventative Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to all equipment to ensure proper functionality
  • People: Directly responsible to train all new employees and provide periodic re-training/cross training when necessary. Responsible for approving overtime and time off.
  • Material Handling: Accurate fabric storage and accurate and timely roll tag procedures are critical. Follow material rolls usage (FIFO) according to guidelines using available reports and meeting ISO guidelines (identification & traceability).
  • Additional work and Recuts: Ensure that all stock cut parts are up to required level. Provide timely clicked parts necessary to complete orders, perform recuts when necessary
  • Cutting Department Administration: Relates to the management and organization of the flow and storage of production related information (i.e. written instructions, shop orders, cut files & data, etc.). Maintaining Warehouse cleanliness, maintain compliance with all ISO procedures.

Non-Essential Job Functions: Normal responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the aforementioned areas.

Training: Provided on the job

Qualifications:

  • Education & Certifications: High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Experience: 1 year of experience in manufacturing setting preferred

Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for duration of day and walk frequently

Working Conditions: Plant environment with constant background noise
