Brief Description of Duties

The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is a public land grant institution of higher learning dedicated to providing quality, career-focused undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to launch, enhance, or change careers. The mission of UDC's (non-credit) division of Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning (UDC-WDLL) is to reduce unemployment and underemployment in the District of Columbia by enhancing the skills of its residents. The program provides no-cost training to DC residents aimed at helping them earn jobs, get promoted, and train for careers in new industries.

Incumbents must teach all assigned classes and hours as determined by the semester course schedule; incumbents will be required to prepare and deliver relevant curricula to students, using a variety of teaching methods to include, but are not limited to, lectures, class discussions, demonstration labs, and projects. UDC-WDLL is seeking enthusiastic and qualified adjunct instructors interested in teaching an Apple Technician course(s). Work experience(s) demonstrating knowledge and mastery of Apple operating systems is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide hands-on, guided, differentiated instruction to students enrolled in the courses as specified in the schedule, curriculum, syllabus and course contract.

* Participate in evaluating and selecting assigned text and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans.

* Conduct efficient and effective classroom and workshop session management.

* Provide students with a supervisor approved syllabus, and/or syllabi, that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with the institution's texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.

* Use the institution's learning management system to post syllabi, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students on time.

* Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered.

* Regularly communicates and refers students to university and division-wide student success (academic and career) opportunities, resources, services, events, and information to assist students in removing or mitigating barriers to employment to achieve their educational and career goals.

* Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments, and grades, and submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the institution.

* Provide an educational environment conducive to learning, establishing, and maintaining classroom control.

* Encourage students to submit course evaluations/surveys, review course evaluations, and use feedback to improve course delivery.

* Attend all required adjunct meetings to stay abreast of all pathway-specific and division-wide policies, requirements, and expectations.

* Meet all university and division required training activities.

* Review and adhere to the WDLL Faculty/Instructor guide.

* Meet with the Dean or Pathway Director regularly to discuss all aspects of the course, including student progress and curriculum development (may be required to provide input into program development).

* Adhere to University and division-specific policies and guidelines concerning academics and student and staff conduct.

* Provide student progress reports to the Pathway Director.

Minimum Job Requirement

* Bachelor's Degree or at least three years of demonstrated teaching experience in the subject matter area preferred, including evidence of teaching accomplishments/successes, as applicable.

* Must possess current certification in subject matter (Certification must be the same as the course being taught).

* Be familiar with subject area certification processes, guidelines, and procedures.

Condition of Employment: Temporary employment may be ended at anytime with or without cause.

Collective Bargaining Unit: Dependent upon certain criteria, this position may be eligible for representation and require payment of union fees through direct payroll deduction.
