As a nurturing university community, we challenge students, faculty, staff, and administration to fully realize their highest academic, professional, and personal potential.Position Description Summary/Purpose:This position assesses student needs, goals, interests and prior academic experiences in order to guide students in the design and implementation of a successful academic plan and first semester schedule. The position is also responsible for understanding and interpreting the College's policies and academic options of all Degree and Certificate programs to help facilitate the student through the academic enrollment process.Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:(The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. - Provides applicant students with a preliminary transfer evaluation and provides any additional information on transfer policies.
- Determines placement according to academic policy and advises applicant students in the development of an academic plan of study.
- Creates a first semester schedule for new students.
- Works closely with Programmatic Advisors, Admissions Officers, the Registrar's Office, Department Chairs and Program Directors along with Faculty to provide timely and accurate information to applicant regarding Course/Degree options.
- Participation in weekly team meetings and professional development team building activities
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes some weekday evenings and Saturdays
- Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.
Other Functions:
- Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
- Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
- Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
- Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.
- Strong attention to detail and positive attitude
- Proficiency with various systems including MS Office applications
- Learns and remains knowledgeable about student support services and makes appropriate referrals when needed.
- Develops and maintains a knowledge base of the University's academic programs and related Degree/Certificate academic policies and procedures
QualificationsEducation, Training and Experience:
- Bachelors required; Masters preferred
- 1-2 years advising experience
- Demonstrated experience in customer service and interest in helping students transfer into two- and four-year college programs.
