JOB DESCRIPTION - Application Chemist
Location: Houston, TX area
Position Summary:
The Application Chemist is responsible for the identification, validation, and research of new products.
Essential Functions:
- Develops formulas, processes and methods for solution of technical problems
- Analyzes organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties
- Develops, implements and maintains a timely and effective evaluation system to ensure products meet desired specifications
- Conducts research to develop and improve products
- Prepares technical papers and reports
- Prepares standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products and tests
- Provides assistance to sales staff for interpretation of sales order applications, application design, technical drawings/blueprints and product compatibility to reduce customer complaints resulting from misapplication of products
- Work closely with vendors and purchasing in the sourcing of products
- Maintains records of project progress and expenditures, research finding and test results
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or closely related field is required, minor degree in Organic Chemistry a plus
- Background in Polymer Chemistry and Catalysis
- Knowledge of polymer fabrication and manufacturing processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Skills and Abilities:
- Good physical condition, able to wear appropriate protective equipment (PPE)
- Able to work in extreme temperatures
- DOT Hazmat certification is desirable
- Spill Response Training is desirable
- Good Understanding of chemical hazards and safety
- Ability to perform routine linear calculations and other basic math skills
- Familiar with basic blending concepts and equipment such as pumps, valves, and kettles.
