  • MAIN PURPOSE (Briefly state the job's overall objective)
  • The Application Lab Equipment and Materials Specialist will be responsible for designing, selecting, and procuring equipment and materials for a new refrigerant lab. This role requires extensive experience in refrigerant labs, HVAC systems, and an understanding of related support equipment and materials. The Specialist will also lead the commissioning of the test cells and certification of the stability and accuracy of testing according to ASHRAE, ASTM and relivant standards.
    • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Briefly description of the most important aspects of the job; no more than 10)
    Lab Design & Setup:
    • Design and select necessary equipment for the lab, including HVAC systems, refrigerant storage, handling equipment, and testing apparatus.
    • Ensure the lab layout is functional for efficient testing and data collection.
    Procurement & Vendor Management:
    • Source and procure required equipment and materials for the lab.
    • Build and maintain relationships with equipment and material suppliers.
    Inventory Management & Maintenance:
    • Create and maintain an inventory of all lab equipment and materials. Monitor usage, maintenance schedules, and calibration routines.
    • Ensure all lab equipment is correctly installed, calibrated, and maintained.
    Collaboration & Testing Protocols:
    • Collaborate with the lab team to develop testing protocols for new refrigerants.
    • Develop safe work practices as experimental activities may generate undesirable byproducts (HF, COF2, etc) or pressure levels (R485A) that may need special consideration
    • Conduct experiments with good laboratory practices (GLP)
    • Ensure all testing is conducted in compliance with relevant safety and regulatory standards.
    Continuous Learning & Development:
    • Stay updated on advancements in refrigerant technology and HVAC systems.
    • Recommend and implement necessary equipment and material updates.

  • SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
    • Understanding of measurement techniques.
    • Precision mindset - must follow standards and standard laboratory work practices.
    • Expert Knowledge of HVAC systems and refrigerants.
  • EDUCATION REQUIRED
    • Bachelor's level - Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
    • May consider 15+ years' experience with technician/military training in lieu of college degree
  • EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
    • 10+ years engineering/science experience
    • Technical proficient+ level position
    The compensation for this position will typically range from $121,000 - 196,000/yr. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include short and long-term incentive compensation.
