Job Description:
The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Applications Support Specialist to assist with day-to-day operations of our IT- Department. The Applications Support Specialist earns a competitive salary of $27.57 - $29.85/hour, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS AN APPLICATION SUPPORT SPECIALIST The purpose of this class within the organization is to be responsible for the administration, support, coordination, and maintenance of major applications within the organization and to design a workflow that will provide the level of service the customer is expecting from the software. This class also acts as a liaison between the Technology Support Specialist and the IT Infrastructure Architects, providing the required skill set to dive into the application and troubleshoot any issues the end user might face. This class works independently, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Essential Functions:
  • Aid in the creation of productivity improvements. Recommend solutions to inefficiencies. Design and create those solutions.
  • Analyze workflow efficiencies.
  • Work as a cross-functional team with the user departments Subject Matter Experts (SME's), Information Technology peers, and vendor staff coordinate major upgrades and minor patches for application software with the goal of software as current as reasonable.
  • Create, coordinate, and document testing procedures and results.
  • Assist with testing application software and the creation of detailed documentation for software components and their use in our organization.
  • Coordinate go-live approvals and ensure patches are production-ready.
Additional Duties:
  • Aid departments in creating process flow documentation and user reference guides as needed.
  • Provide support for users having issues with applications. Assess and identify areas of concerns. Escalate issues as required.
  • Train end users and create related documents for organizational use as needed.
  • All duties as assigned by the CIO.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Requires an Associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
  • Requires over two years of experience working with applications and relational databases.
  • Intermediate to advance knowledge with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Power tool skills (Power Apps, Power Automate, PowerBI).
  • Experience working of SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive and able to design, create, and maintain documents. Knowledge of SharePoint libraries and webparts.
  • Experience working with interfaces to and from relational databases. Ability to learn and implement new software packages. Ability to troubleshoot, recognize and solve problems with software programs for end users.
  • Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
