JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Vehicle Spectrum Dominance Department in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a motivated, self-starting Applications Developer to join our team to design, develop, implement, document, and maintain software applications, test, debug, install, and modify new or existing applications, and design and implement new features and/or integrations for existing software. This position would work out of our State College, PA office. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Design and implement secure, automated infrastructure solutions for high-performance computing environments thru Agile software development
- The entry-level DevOps individual will work as part of a team to perform and review pull requests, unit tests, and occasional documentation as needed
- Work with and maintain our continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to allow for frequent, trouble-free deployments of infrastructure code
- Configure and optimize various compute resources and networks including bare metal and virtualized/container environments
- Provide demonstrations of your work to the internal team and occasionally external customers
- Coordinate with the team to identify risks, issues, requirements, and design solutions for project-level activity on a daily basis
This job will be filled at the advanced or senior professional level, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Bachelors' degree or higher plus four years' related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience for the advanced professional level. Additional experience and/or education required for higher level positions. Required skills/experience areas include:
- Software programming with a high-level programming language such as Python or C++, MATLAB
- Software development with tools to perform configuration management, issue tracking, and testing
- Cisco Security+, CCNA Certifications
- Routing, Switching, and Enterprise level network management.
Experience in the following areas is strongly preferred:
- Linux-based infrastructures and system administration
- Knowledge of DevOps tools/practices
- Infrastructure/automation via scripts languages such as Ansible or Puppet
- Configuration management via Git, Bitbucket, or GitLab
- Container/orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Proven troubleshooting skills with the ability to spot issues before they become problems
- Good communication skills
- Well-organized, independent and ready to work with fairly minimal supervision
Additional responsibilities for higher level position includes
- Experienced with RADAR Operation and Maintenance, AN/SPS-64, AN/SPS-73, Furuno, Garmin, AN/SPY-3
- Experienced with Navy LINK systems, CDLMS, LINK-16, LINK-11, HAWKLINK, DAMA
- Experienced with Navy Shipboard Communications Systems, NMT, SITE-TV, GBS, WSC-3, HFRG
- Familiar with Linux Ubuntu
- Journeyman Electrician Certified by United Services Military Apprenticeship Program
- Hold Navy NEC 728A COMSEC Maintenance Technician
- Hold Navy NEC 794A Communications Technician NSW
- TS Security Clearance, SCI eligible
- Prior leadership
Advanced professional level candidates will have experience with the following tools/technologies; higher-level candidates will have
advanced knowledge of the following competencies:
- Ansible and Puppet
