Job Summary:
In this role, the Applications Engineer is the primary technical point of contact for customers and SEKISUI KYDEX employees for application development and design support for existing products and new product development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with customers and other functional areas within SEKISUI KYDEX to identify investigate, develop, and commercialize new thermoplastic applications
* Establish strong customer relationships across market segments by leading project and program activities to provide technical solutions for current projects and providing added value by developing integrated solutions and education about them for future ready-to-use projects
* Be the key liaison and facilitator for educational/prototyping/production activities in appLab?
* Demonstrate a working knowledge of market segments, regulatory requirements, customer needs, and competitive products by investigating and providing feedback to the business and technical groups
* Provide technical solutions, interpretations, and design optimization to our key accounts in support of SEKISUI KYDEX?s product lines and processes to add and enhance value to our customer relationships
* Assist customers in implementing cost improvements and process innovations to improve SEKISUI KYDEX?s value proposition
* Support technical, sales, marketing, and operations teams to meet growth initiatives
* Research new technologies and assess how they may be leveraged to maintain SEKISUI KYDEX?s leadership position in the industry and add value to our supply and consumer base
* Review existing product effectiveness and efficiency within an application while developing strategies for improving or leveraging these systems
* Work closely with sales to position the proper material(s) into new applications, resolve performance issues in existing applications, and coordinate analysis and resolution for customers
* Ensure development projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve system issues
* Plan, coordinate, and conduct third party trials, product characterizations, and performance testing
* Develop technical documentation and reports on new products, applications, and processes
* Review and maintain existing technical document(s) for product portfolio, applications and processes
* Collaborate with marketing in developing business and trade articles promoting SEKISUI KYDEX and its products and applications

Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor?s degree from four-year College or University (preferably, in engineering or natural sciences) or an Associate degree with relevant experience

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Ideal candidate will have three to five (3-5) years of related experience and/or training in plastic sheeting, compounding, coloring, thermoforming, injection molding, secondary manufacturing processes, analytical instrumentation, physical testing of PVC and non-PVC compounds
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
* Write reports, business correspondences, and procedure manuals for diverse audiences with varying levels of technical expertise
* Work with mathematical concepts such as statistics, probability, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
* Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
* Comprehend mathematical theories and how they pertain to and influence practical applications
* Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage several abstract and concrete variables
* Knowledgeable in thermoformer (and other related processing equipment) control or operating systems

* This position may require travel up to 20% (52 business days) a year

Physical Requirements
* Sedentary - exerting up to 10lbs/4kgs of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to life, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
* Rarely (1 to 2 times per month), it may be necessary to exert up to 50lb/22kg of force to move objects in/out of equipment during setup which may require twisting, bending, reaching without force to access objects
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally becomes exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet
* Working conditions and environment may change occasionally due to visits to customer facilities
