Job Description: Alpine Laser, now part of the Machine Solutions family, is a rapidly growing medtech startup specializing in design and manufacturing of advanced laser processing workstations for medical device manufacturing. We are looking for a Senior level Applications Engineer to join our high performing core team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience programming and operating multi-axis CNC machines, with laser processing experience being a plus. Produce sample parts for customers that meet print and quality metrics. This process generally includes the creation of CNC toolpaths from customer 2D prints and 3D CAD files, laser process development and identifying key laser process parameters. This individual will also generate an applications report summary and may make recommendations to customers on workstation configurations. After-sales, you will field and support customer service questions ranging from basic machine operation, HMI operation and motion programming questions and support.
Responsibilities: Pre-Sales Engineering and Customer Application Development - Collaborate with customers during the pre-sales phase to compile a recommended laser workstation configuration for quoting that meets application specifications.
- Convert customer-provided prints (PDF/DXF/3D files) into detailed motion programs using G-Code and specialized software like CAGILA.
- Manufacture sample parts, inspect, and measure for accuracy, and write comprehensive application reports with recommendations for machine tooling, fixtures, and workstation setup.
Laser Applications Lab Management and Operation - Oversee the operation of advanced laser cutting and welding systems (e.g., Ultrafast and Fiber Lasers, Galvo/Scanner systems) to support R&D and new product development.
- Utilize and maintain Keyence Digital Microscope with 3D measurement capabilities for precise part inspection and quality validation.
- Operate post-processing equipment such as ultrasonic cleaning systems and other related tools to meet customer and internal project requirements.
Tooling and Fixturing Design - Occasionally, some design, testing, and implementation of new or customized tooling and fixturing for laser processing applications may be required to optimize performance and ensure high-quality output.
Post-Sales Technical Support and Customer Service - You will be the main point of contact, and the subject matter expert in laser processing applications, providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance for customers on machine operation, HMI, and motion programming.
- Provide onsite customer support when necessary to resolve complex technical issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
Process Documentation and Continuous Improvement - Document process parameters, equipment settings, and best practices, contributing to a knowledge base that supports the team and customers.
- Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Applications Lab and contribute to process improvements.
Qualifications: - Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (master's preferred).
- Experience:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience programming and operating multi-axis CNC machines.
- Extensive experience in laser processing applications, including cutting, welding, ablation, and marking.
- Background in medical device/component manufacturing or a similar precision industry is preferred.

- Must be capable of standing, sitting, crouching, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Advanced Technical Knowledge - In-depth understanding of CNC programming and multi-axis machine operation, especially in a laser processing environment.
- Advanced knowledge of laser system operations (Ultrafast, Fiber, Galvo/Scanner) and ability to troubleshoot and optimize these systems.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills - Strong analytical skills for interpreting customer requirements and converting them into manufacturing solutions.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues with a high degree of independence.
Customer-Centric Communication - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in explaining technical concepts to customers and creating detailed documentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with both internal teams and external clients to align expectations and project outcomes.
Attention to Detail and Quality Orientation - Strong attention to detail in inspecting and measuring laser-processed parts to ensure compliance with high-quality standards.
- Consistent focus on quality control and process documentation to support customer satisfaction and compliance.
Project and Lab Management Skills - Demonstrated capability in managing multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring the Applications Lab operates efficiently and safely.
