Cyanco is the newest member of the Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals team. Formed in 1990, Cyanco has grown from a regional chemical producer in Nevada to a global supplier - manufacturing and delivering sodium cyanide around the world.
About the role
* Focusing upon workplace safety, including but not limited to: completion of risk assessments, identify and reporting hazards
* Prepare samples, including but not limited to: splitting, crushing, pulverizing, sizing, specific gravity determination and moisture determination.
* Conduct metallurgical test work such as pre-leach processing, leaching, flotation, sample treatment and detoxification with report writing.
* Laboratory maintenance including but not limited to: checking and maintaining lab equipment, troubleshooting instrumentation.
* Conducting metals and cyanide analysis for all species, using multiple methodologies
* QC/QA for Cyanco/Orica products as well as general analytical back-up for all Cyanco/Orica plants
* Develop expertise in and C.I. for on-line analyzers
* Communication with the process team to help implement optimisation programs and solve cyanide related issues which arise both internally and externally.
* Field work (25 - 45%) to include:
* Cyanide Analyser troubleshooting, operation & training of users (internal & external)
* Assist with CN Assessment & Process Health Check technical report writing.
* Assist with Site Surveys and the resulting report
* Promote Cyanco/Orica products and services
* Contribute towards the preparation of sales and marketing material.
* Potential to make presentation at mining conferences.
* Develop case studies of cyanide technology & service implementations to internal and external stakeholders.
What you will bring
* Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy
* Minimum 4-years' experience in chemical/mining industry or a 2 years' experience with a master's degree.
* Comprehensive knowledge of chemistry required; chemistry of gold/silver extraction knowledge preferred
* Demonstrate strong customer service skills and the ability maintain good customer relationships
* Demonstrate strong analytical abilities, chemistry aptitude and problem-solving skills; able to implement preventative and corrective actions independently and in a timely manner
* Strong ability to analyze laboratory/analytical data to determine the best path forward
* Strong knowledge of safe laboratory and mine site practices, particularly related to the use of hazardous materials
* General knowledge of environmental processes and practices and I&E principals
* Knowledge of general laboratory procedures including wet chemistry and instrumentation; appreciation of HSE procedures and regulations in the chemical/mining industry
* Demonstrate strong organizational, planning, and process / change management skills
* Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
* Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
