The Robot Fleet Mobility AI team is seeking a passionate, experienced Applied Scientist in AI/ML to contribute to building the state-of-the-art Foundation Models that will power the future of Amazons growing fleet of over 750,000 mobile robots.

Key job responsibilities
This role will be responsible for:
- Thinking Big with internal customers, science/engineering teams, and stakeholders to identify ways AI could improve the operations of mobile robot fleets.
- Working with cross-functional teams to define the next generation of AI foundation models for mobile robot fleets.
- Advancing the state of the art of multi-agent robotics AI by implementing, training, and testing new AI model architectures.
- Performing comprehensive evaluation of the newly developed AI systems from an application and business perspective.
- Partnering with Amazon Scholars and Postdoctoral Scientists to contribute original scientific research and to identify methods for applying the new scientific advancements to improve robot fleet operations.
- Partnering with Engineering teams to productize, and operationalize data processing pipelines, AI model training and deployment, and application model derivation.
- Mentoring junior scientists.
A day in the life
You will be:
- Continuously learning about the rapidly evolving fields of Robotics and AI.
- Collaborating with a team of scientists and engineers to identify business opportunities and scientific challenges, to scope, design and implement AI solutions, and to comprehensively evaluate your new models.
- Implementing state of the art AI models using an unprecedentedly large robot fleet dataset, and the latest AWS parallel computing infrastructure.
- Tackling the scientific and engineering challenges that come with doing something new with determination, knowledge, and skills.
About the team
You will be joining a rapidly growing science team within the Amazon Robotics Research, Applied and Data Science organization. Our organization is multidisciplinary with scientists that develop novel planning algorithms, machine learning methods, and optimization techniques. We address real-world challenges in industrial robotic warehouses, including path planning, task allocation and scheduling, and the co-design of robotic logistics processes and their supporting algorithms, while also serving as an innovation hub and collaborating with academia. Our team is responsible for building and operationalizing a first-of-a-kind large AI model for mobile robot fleet, that will transform every system and application within Amazon Robotics.
Basic Qualifications
- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- 2+ Experience developing and training Transformer models, LLMs, diffusion models, deep leaning models, vision Transformers, GANs, and/or other large AI models
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Unix/Linux
- Experience in professional software development
- Experience with AWS cloud services, especially SageMaker and AWS Batch
- Experience with parallel/distributed processing and training frameworks, such as Spark, DeepSpeed, PyTorch DDP, Keras, and/or TensorFlow Core
- Proven ability to navigate, maintain, and contribute to large, complex code bases
- Experience deploying and operating scalable ML models
