Applications are now being accepted for the position of:Apprentice Lineman I, II, IIIFUNCTION:Build, maintain, and troubleshoot GEUS overhead and underground transmission, distribution, secondary, and service facilities.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1 Perform duties with close supervision, seeking guidance and training from those more skilled and experienced on a regular basis. 2 Know, understand, and follow all GEUS safety rules and policies. 3 Work safely at all times to protect self, other crew, the public, GEUS property and equipment, and personal and public property from injury or damage. 4 Participate in job briefings (tailboard discussions) for each job as described in the GEUS Safety Manual. 5 Attend and participate in safety and training meetings. 6 Subject to on-call duty and emergency response after normal working hours. 7 Provide advice, guidance and training to subordinate personnel. 8 Learn to wire and install transformers, capacitors, reclosers, street lighting, and other associated electrical equipment from on-the-job experience and vocational training. 9 Will participate in appropriate vocational training with the goal of achieving certification equivalent to Journeyman in the trade. 10 Climbs poles supporting energized circuits of up to 7,200 volts. 11 Scope of work (voltages, complexity of work, etc.) is dependent upon the level of apprenticeship. The primary responsibilities only include essential functions of the job and does not imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Employees will be required to follow any other job-related instruction and to perform any other job-related duties requested by supervisor or management.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: 1 Class A CDL 2 High school diploma or equivalent. 3 Actively engaged in specialized training with the goal of achieving certification equivalent to Journeyman Lineman level in the trade. 4 Climbs wooden poles and must be able to perform Pole-top Rescue and Bucket Rescue. 5 Possesses basic knowledge of electric theory and how electricity is manipulated and utilized in a power system. 6 Must be qualified to work on or near energized electrical equipment. 7 Can distinguish exposed live parts from other parts of electrical equipment. 8 Able to determine the nominal voltage of exposed live parts. 9 Is knowledgeable of proper clearances and working distances and corresponding voltages. 10 Has a thorough understanding of policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to Engineering and Operations Department. 11 Demonstrates some proficiency in the operation of most, but not all, aerial lift devices, digger-derricks, backhoes, trenchers, and other GEUS tools and equipment.PHYSICAL EFFORT: 1 Works from heights above the ground from aerial devices, poles, and trees. 2 Able to lift a 10 crossarm, weighing 88 pounds from floor to chest height; return crossarm safely to floor. 3 Safely generate push and pull forces of 65 pounds. 4 Ascend and descend a 5-rung ladder 20 times, without exceeding 85% of Maximum Permissible Heart Rate (Karvonen formula). 5 Lift and carry 88 pounds.Pay Rate: DOQ - Plus Benefits Full-Time EmploymentTo apply, you must submit a City of Greenville/GEUS application form.
