Summary: The APU machining manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of the autonomous production unit (APU) within the machining plant. This role involves ensuring the efficient, effective, and safe operation of the APU, meeting production targets, maintaining high-quality standards, and fostering continuous improvement. The APU manager will lead a team of supervisors and operators, driving operational excellence and supporting the plant's strategic objectives. They are responsible for the safety, quality, delivery, cost, and inventory performance of their team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the APU, ensuring production schedules are met.
- Monitor and optimize production processes to maximize efficiency and minimize waste Ensure a safe and compliant work area, with focus on LOTO, PPE, and 5S standards in their areas.
- Work to reduce/eliminate sources of scrap/defects from the process. Work to minimize sources of waste.
- Ensure that appropriate balancing of resources and schedules are available to eliminate any late or backlogged orders from the value stream.
- Maintain focus on cost of manufacturing, aiming to achieve/exceed yearly targets for productivity.
- Reduce cycle time and changeover time and hold standards compliance to reduce the volume of inventory necessary to support the operations.
- Utilize Lean tools to drive improvements and create understanding/ownership of good CI practices on the team. Work to drive waste from the value stream.
- Conduct Layered Process Audits (LPA) to confirm standard work compliance.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within a machining plant.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, equipment, and tools.
- Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in using ERP systems and other production management software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
