DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Aquatic Biologist, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks involving the assessment, interpretation, and application of aquatic biological sciences in the Clean Water Program, to ensure compliance with the commonwealth's rules and regulations governing water management. Work involves planning, developing, and implementing investigative studies related to point source and nonpoint source pollution. This position is responsible for providing aquatic biological recommendations to Regional and Central Office staff to aid in the detection, prevention, or abatement of water pollution. You will have the opportunity to conduct comprehensive field studies of the effects of various types of waste discharges (sewage, industrial wastes, stormwater, and mine drainage) on the abundance and distribution of various forms of aquatic life in lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers. In this position, you will act as a beginning level biologist where duties are assigned and work is reviewed by the supervisor upon completion through an evaluation of reports and data collection for technical accuracy and adequacy.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
* Full-time employment
* Travel will be required for site visits.
* Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
* Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
* A bachelor's degree with a major in a biological science, natural science, environmental science, or natural resource management, including or supplemented by six college credits in freshwater aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, aquatic botany, water pollution biology, entomology, limnology, or closely related aquatic science coursework; or
* An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six college credits in freshwater aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, aquatic botany, water pollution biology, entomology, limnology, or closely related aquatic science coursework.
* Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
