BACKGROUND CHECK:

PROBATION:
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
ELIGIBILITY:
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
EDUCATION ACCREDITATION:
Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
CLASS DESCRIPTION:
An Aquatic Center Leader plans, promotes, oversees and conducts aquatic programs at a community aquatic center. Work of this class involves leading part-time pool staff but does not perform full supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior.
Employees in this class work a conventional workweek which may include evening and weekend hours. Work is performed in aquatic centers where inclement weather conditions may be encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
SELECTION PROCESS:

The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have three (3) years of experience in aquatics recreational activities including teaching swimming lessons.
OR
EQUIVALENCIES: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES:
Candidates must hold and maintain the following certificates issued by the American Red Cross:
* Lifeguard Certificate
* Lifeguard Instructor Certificate
* Water Safety Instructor Certificate
* Certified Pool Operator
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
* Knowledge of the techniques of designing, planning and promoting aquatic activities.
* Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques and equipment.
* Knowledge of first aid and safety instructions.
* Knowledge of the use and care of recreational equipment.
* Ability to analyze community and group aquatic needs.
* Ability to select and adapt programs to meet community and group needs.
* Ability to assign and review the work of others.
* Ability to plan and organize an aquatics recreation activity.
* Ability to provide excellent customer service and create a work atmosphere where serving others is a priority.
* Ability to work effectively with large groups of people.
* Ability to maintain discipline and order.
* Ability to maintain records.
EXAMINATION PROCESS:
