We are determined: above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger beginning with you.POSITION SUMMARY:The Aquatics Coordinator (under the direction of the Executive Director and in partnership with the Sr. Aquatics Director) will provide supervision and instruction to members and staff in the aquatics department by listening actively, strengthening relationships and ensuring a safe, fun and enjoyable aquatic experience for members and program participants. The coordinator must display positive leadership, flexibility, patience, and continuous follow through.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Assists in recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling and supervising personnel and volunteers. Be on deck for swim lessons to build relationships with families as well as coach and mentor staff to ensure program quality and standards are being upheld. Ensuring swim lesson communication is delivered in a timely manner.Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete.Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.Adheres to all YMCA of South Hampton Roads policies, procedures, rules, regulations and best practices.Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.Attends meetings as assigned.Complete Blood borne pathogens course annually, and other trainings as required.Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.Ability to perform all functions as those they supervise and meet qualifications and certifications of Lifeguard III and Swim Instructor.Performs and adheres to safety, cleanliness, and uniform standards associated with COVID-19 prevention.Assists in all areas as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, High School Diploma or GED equivalent.Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications (obtain instructor level within 1 year).Current YMCA Swim Instructor Certification or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.Will be required to have trainer certifications in CPR, AED, O2, and Swim Instructor within 1 year of employment.Will be required to obtain Aquatic Facility Operator certification within six months of employment.Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.Maintain all required certifications (active).One or more years of lifeguard/swim instructor supervisory experience preferred.Minimum age of 21.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
