JOB STATUS: OPEN EFFECTIVE: 2024-25 POSTING DATE: 06/05/2024 CLOSING DATE: 06/30/2025 04:30 PM POSTING NUMBER: 00051596 SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT: AQUATICS CENTER LOCATION: Manassas,VA POSITION TITLE: AQUATICS INSTRUCTOR REPORTS TO: Aquatics Operations Coordinator Aquatics Manager BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent. Additional certification in lifeguarding and first aid are preferred. Must have instructional experience in water safety classes and other aquatics programs. STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: None PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work may involve periods of prolonged time in water while performing instructional duties. Work may involve exposure to swimming pool chemicals including chlorine, potential exposure to blood and body fluids at the scene of an injury or accident. Ability to perform the following stokes to American Red Cross Level Four standards: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, side stroke and butterfly. Must be able to maintain position on back for one (1) minute in deep water while floating or sculling. In addition, must be able to tread water continuously for one (1) minute. BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK: Responsible for the delivery of water safety and swimming instruction to various groups including members of the community and PWCS students. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

  • Works collaboratively with all stakeholders in providing a World Class Education.
  • Develops curriculum for water safety classes and activities as needed.
  • Delivers water safety instruction to various groups including members of the community and PWCS students.
  • Coordinates and leads elementary and high school physical education water safety instruction classes.
  • Assist the Aquatics Program Coordinator in marketing water safety classes for the community.
  • Prepares instructional program course records and statistical reports.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
