This off-site role will run our programming at the River East Elementary School at 2351 1st Ave (East 120th Street) in New York City. This newly renovated pool is 6 lanes by 25 yards full of crystal clear water. We expect that the pool will quickly become a popular resource in the community. We are very excited to start this new partnership and need a natural leader to make it successful. Programming will include a mixture of Asphalt Green's free swim instruction and water safety programs for students attending the school plus other New York City public school students local to the community. We will also make time available to general community members as AG works to provide life-changing aquatics initiatives through community outreach in East Harlem. The Aquatics Manager will develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders to maximize pool usage and program outcomes. This position will require a strong leader who is able to delegate ensuring that pool operations, including the pool deck, run smoothly while creating an optimal and safe working environment. Successful candidates will be experienced professionals looking to make an impact in youth development and community outreach, with thorough knowledge of all things aquatics. A background in water safety is required for consideration for this role. The role reports to the Director of Citywide Aquatics Programs. This is a full time, on-site role. No remote work. Early mornings and some weekends are a part of the job. Responsibilities:Management
- Manage a team of approximately 20-25 employees, including lifeguards, swim instructors, swim coaches and program supervisors; provide leadership, training, and tools for successful daily operations, and career development.
- Manage the pool deck, communicating information on pool conditions, schedules, policies, changes, and classes as appropriate and necessary.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility, inspecting the pool and programs with regular walkthroughs and monitoring quality to ensure everything is above board. Regularly communicate with River East operations team to maintain proper DOH levels.
- Manage an administrative budget in collaboration with the Director of Citywide Aquatics Programs. Review and approve part-time payroll, track maintenance supplies and general program equipment expenses.
- Hire, schedule and evaluate program staff, evaluating and scheduling as appropriate.
- Strategize to increase staff engagement and working experience; provide constant points of feedback through an employee's lifecycle
Communication, scheduling, registration, and engagement
- Work closely with the Community Programs department to schedule multiple schools and afterschool programs across different class/course options.
- Communicate closely with school liaisons, teacher chaperones, and/or parent coordinators to ensure proper registrations, active engagement, and overall program investment.
- Serve as brand ambassador when meeting with administration and parents; attend school functions (back to school nights, etc.), schedule meetings with school principals, etc.
- Oversee program registration and enrollment process; ensure all data collection procedures are followed and that other outcomes measurements are captured according to established procedures.
Safety
- Maintain all standards and documentation required by the Department of Health and American Red Cross. Maintain accurate records related to maintenance on the pools and related mechanicals.
- Work closely with school safety agents to effectively manage and control access to the pool.
- Train Asphalt Green staff on and ensure implementation of River East's emergency action plan.
- Maintain a record of any safety related incidents or accidents including reporting.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of management experience with a focus on instructional aquatics and/or competitive swimming
- Experience in aquatics program management, with responsibilities including training, administration, and budgets at a Y or community center level is preferred.
- Strong leadership, time management, and multitasking skills
- Strong computer, written and verbal skills
- Spanish fluency strongly preferred
Please note: American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR/AED certification is required within 30 days of employment; American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification is required within 1 year of employment. Asphalt Green will facilitate access to these certification courses.
