Position Type: SCHOOL SUPPORT SERVICES/AQUATICS PROGRAM COORDINATORDate Posted: 2/1/2024Location: Highland Pool - School Support ServicesDate Available: 02/01/2024Closing Date: OPEN UNTIL FILLED QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and practices associated with services and activities of community aquatic programs plus specialized knowledge in the program area of assignment; knowledge of the goals and objectives of the KHSD swim programs; must know basic principles of supervision and training and staff evaluation; knowledge of relevant Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations, including health and safety regulations; must know equipment, materials and terminology used in assigned program; requires good planning, organizational and communications skills. Must possess the ability to independently perform all of the duties of the position efficiently and effectively; supervise, organize, and review the work of technical and clerical staff in a manner which promotes high morale and efficiently; must be able to plan, organize, and prioritize work to meet schedules and timelines; prepare clear and concise reports and routine correspondence; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including District officials, parents, students, and the general public. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for overseeing and implementing aquatics programs; plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff; work with the Director of School Services regarding the selection of the District aquatics staff (Lifeguards, off season programs and additional coaches); provide or coordinate staff training; recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establishes schedules and methods for providing aquatics programs; implement policies and procedures; prepare various reports on operations and activities; responsible for staffing the District swim facilities and swim programs; provide assistance and consultation to the District schools regarding swim; assist in developing components of school programs in swim; promote swim activities and programs within the school and community; coordinate aquatics program; works with CIF to advance the competitive aquatics programs in the District; organize and oversee swim coaches clearance; perform related duties and responsibilities as required; responsible for checking chemical and PH Levels of pool on a regular basis; developing and administering a training program for KHSD life guards; other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: BA Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in physical education, recreation or a related field preferred or extensive experience in swim. Minimum of two years increasingly responsible experience in aquatics. LICENSES & CERTIFICATES: Requires a valid California Driver's License, valid First Aid, CPR Certifications and valid USA Swimming Coach's Certifications to teach and certify lifeguarding (WSI certified instructor and appropriate supervision certificates). Can obtain within six months of hiring. Valid CPO Certificate (Certified Pool/Spa Operator). Must maintain these certifications, and obtain other certifications as KHSD deem necessary to keep the operations and use of the pool safe. WORKING CONDITIONS: When working outdoors during District-related aquatics activities and events, may be exposed to extreme weather temperatures and conditions.A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK AND A PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.DUTIES OF POSITION: The Aquatics Program Coordinator is accountable for the education training (Water Safety Instructor), safety, maintenance, and supervision of the District's aquatics program. Volume of work is high and requires the ability to prioritize projects to meet District and Program needs. Requires leadership and supervisory skillsSTARTING SALARY: $5,832.90 (monthly) NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible) NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
