Job Summary:

The Arborist Grounds person position is an entry level position and is responsible for assisting the arboriculture crew in tree removal and cleanup.

Qualification Summary:

Education & Experience:

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must complete WPS training.
Physical Requirements:
  • Long hours are sometimes required.
  • Potentially hard physical labor, lifting 50 pounds occasionally, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects.
  • Ability to stand, squat and/or kneel for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ability to operate basic and specialized equipment.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment preferred.

Duties and Functions:

  • Removes dead or dangerous trees.
  • Site cleanup.
  • Works in all aspects of arboriculture maintenance as required.
  • Practices proper arboriculture techniques.
  • Interacts with all guests and all team members in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
  • Maintains regular attendance in compliance with Callaway Gardens' standards, as required by scheduling that will vary according to the needs of Callaway Gardens' business levels to include some holidays and weekends.
  • Always complies with Callaway standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Maintains the arboriculture standards of Callaway Gardens with a sense of urgency and focus with attention to detail in an efficient and productive manner..
  • Operates all equipment pertaining to their specific job.
  • Ensures all equipment is properly maintained.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Follows instructions, written or verbal.
  • Attend all meetings/training as required by supervisor or manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Critical Thinking Skills:

  • Being able to convey information and ideas clearly and effectively so that ownership of high levels of guest service is understood to be the role of each individual team member.
  • Be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Be able to work well in high-pressure situations while maintaining composure and objectivity, including the ability to listen carefully to and resolve guest issues to the satisfaction of the affected guests.
  • Be able to identify potential guest issues and then develop methodologies to prevent or limit the impact of those guest issues during guest visits.
  • Be able to assimilate complex information and data from various sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need.
  • Be able to effectively listen to, understand, and clarify concerns and issues raised by team members and guests.
  • Be able to perform basic math functions.
