Position InformationJob TitleArchives Processing SpecialistThe Hesburgh Libraries of Notre Dame is looking for an energetic, customer-focused library professional to join our team in the role of Archives Processing Specialist. Working under the direction of the Team Leader for Archival Collections and Management, the Archives Specialist will contribute to the arrangement, description, and management of archival materials within the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, the University Archives, and the Architecture Archives.Across these repositories, the Libraries maintain exceptional archival holdings in support of research and teaching for a range of disciplines. These include Irish studies, Latin American and Iberian history, sports and physical culture, the history of the Catholic Church in America, and the history of the University of Notre Dame. This includes responsibility for processing collections, individual manuscripts, ephemeral items, and realia. Advanced knowledge of research techniques is critical to the success of this position, as the descriptive tools created will shape the historical record. Position will apply controlled vocabularies and subject analysis to descriptive tools, and create archival authority records. Specialist will apply best practices for space and inventory management and create and maintain location register information. Position will preserve and house collections; this requires the ability to identify material types at a granular level, and stabilize archival material according to conservation best practices.Manage collections throughout the duration of the materials' lifecycle. This includes accessioning material to establish repositories' legal and physical control of materials on transfer. It also includes finding aid maintenance through the description of new accretions, or to supply updates or corrections. Incumbent will use knowledge of copyright and privacy regulations in an archival setting to manage material, including confidential records, which are subject to retention or restriction dates. This position will also conduct surveys to identify the scope and size of the collections backlog and work with other team members to identify efficient and effective ways to make collections available.Support of the ongoing operations of the Archival Collections and Management teams. Responsibilities may include special projects, materials transfers, assisting with desk coverage, systems testing, or contributions to pr cedural documentation.```{=html}``` - Bachelor's Degree - Familiarity with archival management best practices - Experience with archival processing and arrangement - Experience creating Archival finding aids - Knowledge of archival collections management systems - Working knowledge of EAD, DACS - Familiarity with controlled vocabularies: Getty AAT, LCSH - Experience creating and manipulating tabular data in Excel or Google Sheets - Analytical and problem-solving skills - Ability to communicate effectively - Excellent writing and research skills - Ability to effectively collaborate with teammates on-site and in a remote capacity
