Job Description SUMMARY: Reporting to the Assistant Director of Residence Life, the Area Coordinator is responsible for the management of an apartment complex of 850 residential students that is open year-round, the direct/indirect supervision of staff (including full-time support staff, a graduate Assistant Community Director, and undergraduate student employees). The Area Coordinator orchestrates activities that integrate the academic and social life of students.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Supervises, schedules, evaluates, develops and directs the work of student employees within the assigned community, including: assist in development of pre-semester and in-service student staff training programs or events, and workshops for a variety of staff lines; manages the payroll process for direct reports student staff.
- Implements and maintains the reception desk and community office operations
- Promotes academic and personal development of community members through programming and activities; providing counseling information and referrals; supporting and advising a strong and responsive hall government; administration of student conduct process, and participation in collaborative retention and relationship building initiatives with campus stakeholders. Advises Residence Life student organization(s) as assigned.
- Administers residential facilities housing 850 students, including: preparation and implementation of building opening and closing processes and check-in and check-out of residents; processes room changes appropriately; prepares reports in cooperation with student staff input, ensures staff coverage and building security during all times that facilities are occupied; and promotes positive working relationships with maintenance, custodial, and physical plant workers to maintain facility-related safety standards.
- Responsible for summer housing operations and staff supervision.
- Serves on the summer conference planning and implementation team.
- Participates in a rotating on-call duty schedule and responds to emergency calls on a 24-hour basis.
- Serves as first line of response during emergencies and critical incidents, including maintenance and repair emergencies, to mitigate risks to student safety and implement associated protocols and reporting responsibilities effectively and efficiently. Emergencies of a particularly serious nature such as sexual assault, suicide or attempt, physical assault or emotional crises are to be reported immediately to the Executive Director of Residence Life.
- Assists the Assistant Director of Facilities, and the Assistant Director of Operations regarding facilities related matters, such as damage billing, vandalism, maintenance concerns, service requests, etc. Plan and review emergency plan/management when appropriate.
- Promotes fire safety through programs, inspections, and scheduled fire drills.
- Assist with annual review and update of departmental policy and procedure documents, including but not limited to: duty response guides, manuals, performance guidelines.
- Compiles and analyzes data and reports.
- Coordinates consistent security measures in each building, including utilization of the entrance area card key systems and hardware, the facilitation of guest sign-in procedures (as designated), and the implementation of an educationally grounded crime prevention program.
- Participates in professional development opportunities, including departmental and campus-wide committees, presentation of programs at regional or larger conferences related to residence life and/or student development, and cooperative programming with other departments.
- Assists in performing central office duties and procedures as assigned during winter break and summer sessions. Provides additional coverage responsibilities for busy weekends, semester openings and closing, open houses, accepted students' days, homecoming, Red Hawk Frenzy, Hall Council meetings and other programs/events as required.
- Attends regularly scheduled Residence Life staff meetings, Student Development and Campus Life Division meetings, and other meetings as assigned. Meets regularly with the Assistant Director of Residence Life and the Assistant Director for Facilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED: - Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Student Personnel, Student Affairs or Higher Education Administration, or related field.
- A minimum of two years' experience as a post-masters, full-time, live-in residence life professional.
- Previous supervisory experience and experience managing student conduct issues and a demonstrated understanding of issues facing college students.
- A valid driver's license.
- This is a 12-month, live-in position
PREFERRED: - Three to four years experience as a post-masters, full-time, live-in residence life professional.
- Experience managing apartment communities with year-round operations.
- Experience leading summer occupancy and conference initiatives.
