Job Description SummaryAs an integral live-on member of the Residence Life team, the Area Director of Residence Life fosters a safe, collaborative, inclusive, and engaging living-learning community that promotes students' academic and personal growth. The Area Director provides direct supervisionto Graduate Assistants and indirection supervision to Residents Assistants. The Area Director is required to live in on campus housing, respond to conduct and crisis issues, provide engaging programming to residents, work closely with other departments. This position will serve as a conduct officer. This Area Director is responsible for enhancing learning communities and other models of student engagement and retention, and work effectively with individual students, groups, and student organizations. The Area Director will effectively handle on call situations as part of a rotation with other professional staff, frequently collaborating with University Safety, and compassionately and effectively managing a wide variety of emergency and communal living related situations. This Area Director will specialize in conflict resolution skills building for students, crisis response, and student advocacy follow-up.Job DescriptionDuties and Tasks:Conflict Resolution, Student Advocacy, Conduct, and Crisis Response* Create and provide comprehensive, ongoing conflict resolution skills building for staff and residents* Using various means of conflict resolution, coordinate mediation and other means of dispute resolution between students in conflict* Be responsible for the on-call crisis response process, ensuring timely and compassionate responses to all crisis situations, and support students from incident through aftermath, often speaking with parents and family members, traveling with students to the hospital, and additional crisis related responsibilities* Actively demonstrate sensitivity to the concerns and developmental needs of all Saint Leo students while helping students understand University policies/procedures* Develop intentional and purposeful educational programs that facilitate an understanding of University policy, and address current trends identified in the community* Serve as a competent and professional liaison by fostering positive intentional interactions with all offices and divisions of the University, especially including Academic Affairs, Campus Safety, Dining Services, and Facilities* Serve on the University's Care Team, which is a multidisciplinary team that identifies students who may be at risk and then develops plans that help them achieve success* Serve as a conduct officer.* Serve as essential and on-call personnel in preparing for, responding to, and addressing the recovery from student or campus-wide crisis issues and those issues related to university safety.* Serve on a wide variety of University and Division committees and task forces to address current issues* Serve as an exemplary role model and representative of the Office of Residence Life to a variety of audiences including students, families, faculty, alumni, employers, local community, and vendors.* Other duties as assignedResidence Life* Assess residents' needs and assist RAs in the development of challenging and diverse programs within the residence halls* Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the RA manual, recruitment and selection(s) process, and subsequent training(s) of the Resident Assistants and other student staff* Assist in the tracking of Residence Hall programming throughout the year and implementation of specific initiatives when needed* Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive residential programming and community development model for a Catholic, co-educational University keeping in mind issues of wellness, diversity, and pertinent student concerns* Encourage and initiate positive interaction among residents, faculty, and staff* Participate in a rotating duty schedule to provide emergency coverage on campus.* Provide direction, development, evaluation, training, supervision, and motivation for Resident Assistants.* Teach and role model the University Core Values in all aspects of the position* Represent the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs on appropriate committees, task forces, and projects* Other duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Knowledge:* Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act, and Campus Save Act (including VAWA -
