Job DescriptionArea Manager The Area Manager supervises New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) casework managers in the upstate New York region, acting as the primary liaison with the HPD Operations Director and as a secondary contact for the Operations Director. The primary goal is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of casework services by enhancing client progress, increasing productivity, fostering a positive work environment, and achieving organizational objectives. The Regional Manager oversees casework services, ensures timely updates, and maintains communication with Cherokee and HPD leadership. Additionally, the Regional Manager establishes partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies, community organizations, and legal entities, advocating for best practices in casework and compassionate care. Compensation & Benefits:
  • Estimated Starting Salary Range for Area Manager: $90,000
  • Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.
Area Manager Responsibilities Include:
  • Oversee assigned HPD casework operations to ensure that all service delivery aligns with Cherokee's contract requirements.
  • Ensure staff is properly trained, meets all necessary requirements to manage appropriate caseloads, and has access to the HPD technology platform for case management.
  • Always maintain adequate operational staffing levels, facilitating clear communication channels between HPD leadership and casework staff.
  • Proactively ensure daily reporting of the casework census and other relevant information to the Operations Director and HPD leadership.
  • Ensure staff adheres to all rules outlined in the HPD and Cherokee Federal standards of conduct.
  • Address casework noncompliance in accordance with HPD case management procedures.
  • Ensure proper allocation of space and infrastructure for service provider staff to perform all administrative and service-related functions as outlined in the solicitation.
  • Manage all incidents in accordance with HPD Incident Management Guidelines and Procedures, maintaining continuous communication with the Operations Director and HPD Serious Incident Unit (SIU).
  • Continuously manage the status of casework referral services.
  • Foster community engagement and collaboration.
  • Provide ongoing supervision to casework supervisors.
  • Support casework efforts to assist asylum seekers in transitioning out of the city's supportive housing and resettlement services.
  • Designate caseloads for casework supervisors.
  • Assign work schedules for casework supervisors.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for casework supervisors.
  • Support the implementation and improvement of the caseworker training model.
  • Implement procedural and process improvements to enhance service delivery.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Area Manager Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent job experience.
  • Master's degree in social work or other human services field preferred.
  • Six months of relevant experience working with people who enter the U.S. seeking asylum.
  • Resettlement, behavioral health, independent living, employment, housing, emergency response, resettlement case management experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in program management.
  • Understanding of immigration laws, regulations, procedures, and benefits/entitlements.
  • Experience working with HPD preferred.
  • Must be organized as well as, have excellent verbal, written and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with families, collaborating agencies, and community professionals.
  • Strong customer service/ hospitality background, preferably with immigrant populations.
  • A self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision and work independently.
  • Able to prioritize and be accountable for timeliness to complete caseloads in a timely manner.
  • Possess sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
  • Ability to organize, multitask and prioritize duties and responsibilities efficiently.
  • Past applicable job experience may include, but is not limited to: Site Manager, Regional Manager, and/or Operations Manager.
  • Past applicable job experience may include, but is not limited to: Site Manager, Branch, Manager, or Operations Director.
