Safari Club International is a U.S.-based organization of more than 50,000 hunters and nearly 200 chapters worldwide, dedicated to protecting the right to hunt and to promote wildlife conservation. In the U.S. and abroad, hunters are part of a system that keeps the rivers, forests and fields intact and maintains the wildlife. The ideal candidate will have an existing knowledge of SCI's current programs and mission and be passionate about hunters' rights and wildlife conservation. Position Summary This position is responsible for overseeing a design team, the design of graphic materials and designing creative concepts for publications. Provides technical support and preflighting for publications if required. Responsibilities
- Oversees production workflow; trains design staff for efficiency and effectiveness; manages all production in light of deadlines to ensure quality and timeliness; follows up with printers for quality control and accountability.
- Writes specifications, obtains cost estimates, and recommends printers. Works with printing vendor regarding prepress processes and procedures. Provides magazine proofs, meets production schedule. Ensure adherence to deadlines, processes, and procedures.
- Creates templates to manipulate files, scans and corrects digital images as required and maintains digital ad library. Collects and converts publications files and submits to required staff.
- Collaborates with ad representatives or client on file preparation. Tests client PDFs and native files and notifies ad-coordinator or client of results. Edits files if necessary. Converts native application documents into print-ready PDFs
- Assists with the editorial line up. Designs layout of magazine feature articles, columns and departments. Designs house ads, client ads, marketing/educational materials, brochures, posters diagrams, and forms. Reviews, proofs, formats of artwork. Reviews samples and specifications on work orders received. Verifies critical page elements and quality standards and perform corrections as needed. Assembles final pages. Creates PDF of final magazine pages. Uploads PDFs. Archives final magazine in electronic storage.
- Collaborates with Marketing, Public Relations and other departments to provide cost-effective communications material and estimates completion time for concepts.
- Researches and recommends software and hardware products for the department. Trouble shoots software problems and/or works with software consultants and manufacturers to resolve problems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned. Attends meetings, conventions, trade shows, and other events as appropriate.
Work Location and Travel Requirements This position works out of the San Antonio office. Hybrid schedule would be considered for the right candidate in the San Antonio area. Skills and Abilities
- Proficient with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, as well as Acrobat.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software, including Word, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, plus Wordpress, and an ability to become familiar with SCI-specific programs and software.
- Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Motivation and strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees.
Qualifications and Education
- The position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of experience with graphic print, layout, type, design, color, and pre-press activity.
