Position: Art TeacherReports To: Building PrincipalSalary Schedule / Grade: Refer to DEA Salary ScheduleF.L.S.A Status: ExemptSUMMARYUnder the general supervision of the School Principal, plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning, employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students including strategies to meet diverse student needs.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clearly communicate learning objectives to students.
- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, sculpting, and art history.
- Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art.
- Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment, organize storage areas and control the use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize the time required for distribution and collection.
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' work for the school and the community.
- Create engaging lessons aligned with pacing guidelines and district curriculum to drive the growth and development of students.
- Use student data from formative and summative assessments to plan instructional delivery.
- Participate in teacher-based teams to analyze data and adapt instruction to impact student learning.
- Utilize reflective practices to improve instructional approaches and adapt to changes in learning methods.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet diverse student needs and interests.
- Implement the District's classroom management strategies and program.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, parents, and other staff
- Attend Staff meetings and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Valid Ohio teaching license for the appropriate content area and grade level
- Experience working in urban education
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and intervention strategies
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and or child/development principles
- Ability and willingness to utilize technology in the enhancement of student learning
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs
- Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in a classroom setting
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Work may be subject to frequent interruptions
- Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines
- Periodic travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
