A lovely family is seeking an elder companion/caregiver for their elderly mother. The principal is located in Woodstock, GA, a suburb of Atlanta, and this position can be live-out for local candidates, or live-in, with a small apartment provided. The schedule for this role is extremely flexible; the family is seeking the right person and can adjust other caregivers to accommodate. The principal has been diagnosed with ALS and has several medical caregivers on a rotating schedule- the family is either looking for a medical caregiver to join the team, or a companion who can provide stability and work alongside the existing medical personnel.
- Provide care and companionship to an elderly woman
- Maintain consistency and be the bridge between the medical staff and the principal
- Offer assistance with technology
- Help facilitate communication with the principal's family, and keep them updated as needed
- Patience and compassion- the principal is having trouble with the diagnosis, and also has difficulty with speech, so the role requires understanding and kindness when she lashes out in frustration
- Flexibility and a team mentality- there is a team of medical staff on board and this role requires working with the team and advocating for the principal as needed
- Ability to deal with challenging personalities, and understanding of the changes that will come as the disease progresses
- Experience with ALS or a similar degenerative disease
- Experience caring for the elderly and working with medical staff
