Join us and be part of a team that values its people!Asbestos Project Monitor | 1099 Independent Contractor Job Summary:As the Asbestos Project Monitor at CMI, prioritizes the implementation of best practices, ensuring compliance with safety requirements, and cultivates a culture of safety enhancement on targeted construction projects.Responsibilities:Asbestos Air Monitoring:
  • Perform daily asbestos air monitoring around the contained abatement area to ensure the air quality meets safety standards.
  • Collect air samples at various locations in and around the abatement area to assess asbestos fiber concentrations.
Visual Inspections:
  • Conduct thorough visual inspections of the abatement project to verify compliance with proper containment protocols.
  • Identify any potential breaches or issues with the containment and report them immediately.
Sample Collection and Analysis:
  • Collect and handle asbestos air samples in accordance with NY State requirements and industry best practices.
  • Analyze collected air samples using appropriate methods to determine asbestos concentrations.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Accurately document all air sample results and visual inspection findings.
  • Prepare and submit detailed reports of sample results, visual inspections, and any issues identified during the abatement project.
  • Ensure daily reports are completed and submitted promptly, maintaining a high standard of accuracy and completeness.
Compliance and Safety:
  • Ensure that all monitoring and inspection activities comply with NY State asbestos abatement regulations and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with the abatement team to address any non-compliance issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
Communication:
  • Communicate effectively with the project team, providing timely updates on air monitoring results and inspection findings.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies if required to ensure compliance with state requirements.
Equipment Maintenance:
  • Maintain and calibrate monitoring equipment to ensure accurate readings.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the appropriate personnel for prompt resolution.
Requirements and Experience:
  • Prior experience in asbestos inspection, air monitoring, or abatement projects is highly desirable.
  • Candidates with experience in environmental health and safety roles, particularly in asbestos-related fields, will be strongly considered.
  • The role requires meticulous attention to detail for both air monitoring and documentation, ensuring compliance with state regulations and safety standards.
  • Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with the project team and reporting findings.
  • Familiarity with asbestos air monitoring equipment and procedures, as well as the ability to analyze data and generate accurate reports, is necessary.
Education and Education and Credentials:
  • A valid New York State Asbestos Project Monitor license is required for this position. Candidates with current certification will be given priority.
  • Completion of the NIOSH Method 7400 training is mandatory for this role. This training ensures the candidate is equipped to accurately analyze asbestos air samples.
Certification Flexibility:
  • Candidates who do not currently possess the New York State Asbestos Project Monitor license but have relevant experience in asbestos inspection or abatement may be considered.
  • If hired, CMI may offer to cover the costs and time required for the candidate to obtain the necessary certification.
  • Candidates accepting this offer must agree to reimburse CMI for the cost of the training if they do not complete the project.
Physical Requirements:
  • The role may require physical activity, including standing for extended periods and working in potentially confined or hazardous environments. Candidates should be physically capable of performing these tasks.
Other Requirements:
  • Background check and potential drug screening required for the position
  • Overtime and flexible working hours may be necessary based on project demands
  • Residence within a reasonable commuting distance
